Hi all, and sorry as i am pretty sure this issue has already been adressed somewhere.
Anyway, i wanted to try KONTAKT before i buy it. So i downloaded the Kontakt 5 player as well as the free sounds (resources).

Up to that point, everything went right.
The Kontakt player does not find the free library...it keeps telling me no library found. I have download the resources ISO disk.

But what bothers me more is that the player has some issues as well:
I have a Yamaha keyboard connected through USB, and it is recognized.

First problem : only the player keyboard produced sound - ONLY if the output is my keyboard. I have only two choices as output
Microsoft wavetable synth and my yamaha keyboard.
As input i have my Keyboard. But when i press a key, i can see it moving on the virtual keyboard, but it won't produce any sound.
My soundcard does not seem to be recognized as an output. It is a HT Omega eclaro.

So basically, for a first try, it is not a success. Is it a way to get everything working or should i forget Kontakt for good.
No sounds libraries and unable to use the keyboard to produce the demo sound...any ideas?

Thanks and sorry if this issues had been asked before

Hello Balsamo and welcome to the forum.

Slow down a bit. Hundreds (if not thousands) of people are using Kontakt quite happily.

First of all, you need to install the Factory Library Selection too - that contains the instruments. Then open Kontakt Player (KP) and in the Browser / Library tab , select "Add Library" and point at the folder where the sounds are installed.

The KP keyboard will only only produce Kontakt sounds after an instrument has been loaded. It sounds like you are clicking the KP keyboard and KP is sending MIDI out to your Yamaha, which is then creating a sound (piano, by any chance?).

For KP, the MIDI Input should be your Yamaha and the audio output should be your audio interface or soundcard. Also you can turn off the MIDI Output from KP (in the Options somewhere I think).

There's much, much more but take one step at a time and you should be OK.

Hi Dark Star... and thank you to adress my problem

Well i would love to be one of the happy Kontakt user... But i am a bit lost as i renew with composing only recently after a 16 years break...softwares were more friendly in those times...anyway...

I am really interrested in buying samples that are compatible with Kontakt, but i want to have try before i spend money...

The first thing is that i am unable to locate the library...it is supposed to be in Document/public/etc...but the player keep saying that there are no library there...SO basically, i have the player ready and the ISO disc with the resources on my pc...what should i do next?

    Ok to make it clearer:
When i try to activate the setup.exe on the resource ISO, it says that it will install the resource selection library on Document/public/etc...What confuse me is that beneath it states that the required disk space is 0 mb...which basically means that the files to be installed are empty...do i miss something?

Besides my library problem, which is not resolved...

Concerning the sound that the player keyboard is piano...although the the sound on my yamaha is on strings, so it does not seem to be the piano sound of my keyboard...The only output alternative is microsoft wavesynth anyway, not my soundcard...and when on "ON" it does not produce any sound
anyway, if i could settle my library problem, i could confirm the problem...i basically don't care much about the library per se, but i want to be sure to be able to use the samples i buy on my keyboard and through my DAW (reaper)

This is from memory, and on PC. When I installed Kontakt, and part of Komplete, at one stage the installer said "Install the library to" and a folder name with a [Change] button and disk space required of lots of MB.

So your installer showing 0 MB is the issue.

You did download both the Player AND the free Sound Library (500 MB) didn't you? Perhaps the Sounds Library download is a separate installer (that would explain the "0 MB" reported by the Player Installer, as it does not have the sounds in it.

I do not know this Player installer nor OSX so perhaps someone-else can help with the details.

    Hi there,

I'm in the same boat. I got the Kontakt player and the free Factory Selection.

The player installed without a hitch. So far so good.

I know that I add a library via the Kontakt player. The Factory Selection comes as an ISO file (Kontakt_Factory_Selection_120.iso). I'm on a Mac, so I have choosen the Mac-Download. The ISO contains an exe file along with 2 directories. Since I can't point the Kontakt player to the ISO file, I unpacked it. But the player keeps telling me "no library found". I tried both directories ("KONTAKT FACTORY SELECTION 120" and "KONTAKT FACTORY SELECTION LIBR") but to no avail. I even tried to put both directories into a folder, and tried that one as a target for the player to add the library. No luck again.

So.... how is that Factory Selection library to be installed?

Hoping for help and thanks in advance,
    John

Ok... I guess, the Mac download is somewhat "broken".

If you choose the PC download, you get the ISO file and an additional EXE file. I don't have a Windows-PC, so I can only guess, that the accompanied EXE file is some sort of ISO mounter. And the ISO file contains the very library. But not in a directly usable way. It appearently needs to be "installed" in some way. Hence the EXE file within the ISO.

I might think, that for Windows users this is not a problem.

But Mac users (and maybe folks who have trouble running this "installer") do have a problem. BTW: The Mac download gets you the very same ISO file...

But well, after some fiddling around, I got it ;)

    It's actually pretty simple:

    - Open the ISO file.
    - go to "KONTAKT FACTORY SELECTION LIBR" > "CONTENTS"
    - There you find a big file named "ARCHIVEPAX.GZ"
    - It's a double compressed archive (gz and tar I think). Extract it, and you get a folder named "Kontakt Factory Selection Library". That's the very library ;)
    - Run the Kontakt player, klick on "add library" and point it to the just extracted folder and you're set.

But hey NI! Why the heck this double installing???

Anyway, maybe that helps ;) :p

    Cheers,
    John
