Im working on a song and it sounds great through headphones but when i listen to it through my 13 inch macbook computer speakers i get awful distortion and buzzing from the fm8 . I have no returns on the synth or anything but a high pass filter. Below is the dry signal. I try to eq or turn the synth down and no matter what i get this horrible distortion through computer speakers. How can I remedy this? Thanks a lot ; )

Sounds fine on my end. Word to the wise: don't ever work on laptop speakers.

Yeah I don't work on them, I use monitors, but I want it to sound good across all systems

Does it sound ok on other systems? If so then a couple of possibilities are the total gain is to high and/or the frequency range is to great for those little speakers. Also check the gain on the Mac's audio system; it may be set to high for this song.

Are you using pure audio files or MP3s? If it is MP3 have you tried changing the compression ratio?

How does those speakers sound with other sound sources? If OK then try to analyze the difference between those songs and yours.

An after thought, have you uploaded the song to say Sound cloud and listened to it that way?

    Good luck.

That's laudable, but really I wouldn't put an undue amount of effort into trying to accommodate for laptop speakers--blood from a stone, mate. Besides, while of course you should make an effort to achieve the best mix possible, compatibility per se is really the mastering engineer's job.

I agree. No one should listen to music on laptop speakers!

    Hey Dillon -

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I am having the same problem with the FM8 and searching all over he internet on how to fix it. Same thing is happening for me here. The FM8 sounds great in a whole bunch of regular speakers but absolutely horrible when I play it through my phone speakers. If I figure it out I'll post it here but in the meantime I thought I'd check in to see if you might have found a fix.

Check your settings for the sample rate. I had some issues too at the beginning of using Komplete. Had to reduce my sample rate from 88k to 48k, now it works just perfect. Before, I had some really funny distortions, but just on some patches and some specific notes, especially on really high and really low pitches. Hope that helps you somehow. :)

Make sure you have the latest version of FM8 - there was a bug that caused distortion in some patches in earlier versions.
