    Hi

Do we have an ETA for the 1st update for Akoustik Piano? Are we talking days/weeks/months?

    Cheers

    Hi Tim,

current status is that we are done with the first pass through the pianos. i.e. all the new features are in and they have been velocity balanced and retuned.

the software is almost ready as well. we will need to put in the recorder changes and put on the finishing touches.

depending on the feedback from the first piano pass and how quickly we get the coding and testing done after the holidays, I would guess that around NAMM would be realistic.

I'd rather make sure that the pianos are really good now and the build is really stable than to release this update too soon.

    Best,
    Markus

    Never mind...I figured it out...

    "Not Available Maybe March"

Well it's 29 March '06 today......Can somebody please tell me whether the updates are available or not......

...if not can somebody please tell me why I spent £200 on a product that's not working proper.... (I bought this with the idea of importing midi....)

    Cheers

Here's a extract from a reply I received just moments ago, which again answers my own question...

    "Hello Johnny,

the standalone recording does not work so well until now.
we are still working on an update which makes it play better and which fixes the recorder. until then it would be better to use an audio recorder to record your files or a sequencer which run AP as dxi or vst plugin.

    best regards

I find it crazy that a software company can release somethingn that they know doesnt work.... I'm a programmer myself, and I know how it goes....But I feel like I just wasted a lot of money....

Please let me know someday when you release the "updates" ...

    Cheers

    Hi Johnny,

FYI, I expect Markus was referring to the 2006 NAMM Show ( http://www.thenammshow.com/ ), which is a HUGE musical instrument trade show in Anaheim, California. (Developers regularly use this show for new product launches....)

Markus's post was made in December & the NAMM Show was in January, so it makes more sense he was referring to the show to be honest, although it's all rather academic seing as we're now in March....

Nice idea with the acronym though! :)

Cheers (..& as peeed off about the update as you...)

    So more great news....

Turnkey (vendor where I bought the software from) wont give me a refund or a swap! This is just getting more and more crazy.... "End user license agreement" which means basically mean they just sell it and can be responsible for the functionallity of the software...

That leaves me £200 down the drain with no idea of when I can be expected to strat using the software I PAID for.....

    Well done NI.

    Let the buyer beware.

One should always know the vendor's policy on returns and swaps before making any purchase. Most vendors will not take back opened software packages because of the possibi9lity of unauthorized copying or installations.

I don't think you should blame NI for Turnkey's policy.

No, I'm not blaming Turnkey....policies are policies....but I cant understand how a company can sell stuff that is clearly not working and then expect to have happy customers...

Anyway, hears some more news on the update ETA:

Just spoke to some German dude from NI and I wished I could have recrded the conversation....
Looks like they dont a clue when these updates will be done. He said something about having to update/re design all there sampler engines and AP is about 3rd or 4th on the list...so he estimates anopther couple of weeks....

If any of you feel like hassleing the NI support team, feel free...they've got your (and my) money!!

    Cheers (final post)

    Hi all,

Definitive news on an AP update: the 1.1 AP update has entered beta. I do not know the exact planned release date, but I'm going to assume it's by the end of the month, because that's when the Kontakt 2.1 update is scheduled -- and the AP engine is based on the Kontakt 2.1 update.

Many many bug fixes will be included. I'll post more details as soon as I have them.

I just bought this product today and, like the captain, had expected to be able to import MIDI files because, well, it's listed in the feature set on the website. Only the "read me" file (read during the hour-long installation) was able to inform me that the most important (to me) feature of the product was disabled and only promised to be restored in a "future update".

Please give me a good reason not to cancel this purchase. I was really looking forward to using this product immediately.

Is MIDI import actually supported in the next update?

I bought this product in September and was so stupid as to register it immediately... While I was quite prepared to wait for an update which makes AP work and sound properly, I must say now I am starting to feel annoyed with all the smilies and promises, and in particular, NI's total retreat from this forum.

    Hi,

    I understand your feelings.

    Waiting... Waiting...

I'm happy now that this update will be soon available.

While we are waiting, NI work very hard each day to make a full great update. (with new Kontakt2.1 engine)

With this update you will have more than expected.

It's the first time that a virtual piano sound so real and stable.

Na, I believe they believe they are telling the truth. It all points to unrealistic resources management and scheduling. Somebody thought that they could actually create all those products within a reasonable time frame. Every project manager goes through the "ready in two days" phase. You eventually learn that you have to sit down, clear the panic out of your head and confront your boss, or the customers, with a realistic number. And you learn to never slip a schedule by just a day. Invariably a day becomes a week and a week becomes a month, so just be honest at the start. Everyone that has worked on projects has made the mistake. Instead of "we're not talking months here", NI should have said, "Given our project cycle including coding and beta testing, we don't expect to get the update out till June". Especially important if the timing for Akoustik was dependent on other variables, like the work being done on the Kontakt engine. There might be much gnashing of teeth but if came out in May all would (probably) be forgiven. At least NI would maintain some credibility.

I think the idea of releasing the beta for current owners to test is a good idea. Not because it appeases the masses but because if the beta testers miss anything and next version contains any errors everyone is going to be REALLY pissed off. Releasing the beta as a "use at your own risk - give us the feedback" beta gets NI off the hook when the released product comes out.

    So where is it?
Also while we are talking about updates there is a rather worrying product that N.I. is trying to flog on this site
    and it's called
    NI KOMPLETE CARE 2006
and it costs around 200 euros.
and this is what it does:

    Free Major Updates
With NI KOMPLETE CARE 2006 you receive all the 2006 major updates for the single products included in your edition of NI KOMPLETE 2 or 3 for free – as soon as they are released. The product release schedule for 2006 means you can make significant savings on the cost of the individual updates.

So N.I. are probably busy working on all the Komplete updates that they can charge a load of people for and not the update that us poor dimwits have already paid for and this is just an update to get the thing to work properly.
