    HOBBES,

Just wondering if the new update has been tested with Panther (OS X 10.3). I read in another thread that one user had a problems with Traktor and a beta of 10.3 but I don't think that is representative of the 2.5 update and 10.3.

Any insight would be appreciated (please, please, let me be able to update to 10.3 when it is released...)!

    Thanks!

...and if not - please tell us that too because then we will wait before updating.

It seems 10.3 will be out before TDJ2.5. So - should we hold of on installing 10.3 or go for it?

Well, opne of our beta testers upgraded to 10.3 and is having issues. I will get ahold of him and find out how serious these issues are.

Oh, that's not good! I certainly hope that NI will fix that before the 2.5 update is on sale! Also, a fix for 2.1.1 would be nice as well since Panther will be out before Traktor 2.5 and it would be very unfortunate if we all had to hold off installing Panther in order to keep Traktor usable.

BTW, thanks for the quick response Hobbes.

    Update process

    Hi,

will the users who paid for T1.0 and got the never perfect working T2 via download also get T2.5 as paid update (49€) or do they have to pay the full price like they would just start with T2.5 ??

    Thx,
    Hubba

All current Traktor users, who have had Traktor Studio since before September 2003, and registered their copy with NI, will only pay $49 for the upgrade.

    Cool.

Can we buy a boxed version with the new manual? Or will it be a download for $49?

    :)

The NI website said that you can order the boxed version for $69 with the manual.

Hobbes, just a couple of questions about the update and Traktor in general.

First, any idea on what Traktor is actually doing (processor wise) when it isn't actually playing songs? I have noticed that Traktor uses quite a bit of processor time even when it isn't playing songs which really seams to be a waste of system resources.

And, as a follow up question, will the 2.5 update be anymore efficient (without master tempo, of course) in terms of system resources (basically, does it perform better or worse on the same hardware).

    Thanks!

I too have noticed that Traktor seems to use a large amount of resources when everything is idle. As far as I could tell, the update is not any more effecient, but it is my understanding that NI is working on improving the effeciency.

    Hobbes,

    Thanks for the info!

I just feel that Traktor's system requirements are a bit out of range considering what the program actually does. Not that I don't want to see the new features, but I think that Traktor could really benefit from a little optimization. I mean, come on, I can run Apple's Soundtrack and time stretch 6 - 8 tracks simultaneously in realtime in addition to applying compression, delay, and other various effects with no problem on my G4/500 but it's gonna take a G4/1.25GHz machine to achieve a seemingly much less intensive operation in Traktor. What gives? (I'm not bitching at you here, I'm just making a point, sorry)

Also, in my experience, code that is inefficient also tends to be unstable. So, maybe a little optimization could also provide a little more stability.

Once again, that's not to say that I wasn't elated when iTunes integration came out nor that I won't be the first in line for the 2.5 update but I sure would love to se a 2.6 update that would make both decks time stretch on a 500 - 700 MHz G4 with some power to spare. Of course, that's probably just a pipe dream but it sure seems like it should be possible considering what's out there.
