    Hi!

I want to use my new komplete kontrol S61 with komplete 9 and then later next week update to komplete 10. So i wonder if this is possible or if there will be any problems with the later update to komplete 10 or with the KKS61 it self?

    Thanks in advance

Komplete 9 and 10 are both optimized to be used with the Komplete Kontrol keyboards so you shouldn't run into any problems.

That's only part of the truth, because someone reported having had problems after updating from a former version.

So it might be best to uninstall 9 before 10 gets installed.

@Aymara do you mean uninstall the komplete kontrol software for komplete 9 or the whole komplete 9 instruments before updating to komplete 10 ? (I know that there are 2 or even 3 versions of komplete kontrol S software avalible on NI website and you must download the correct version before connecting the keyboard in my case its the komplete kontrol software for komplete 9) I am even more confused now then before,
aymara do you have the link to the guy that reported the problem ?

I ment both, K9 and Kontrol for K9.

No, but it was here in the Kontrol-S forum. His problem was, that he screwed everything up, because he only installed K10 content, that wasn't already included in K9, if I remember that correctly. Even after updating through Service Center he had version mismatches, that lead to major problems with Kontrol.

He also reported, that version upgrades caused trouble in the past.

So I think, you might first try just to uninstall Kontrol for K9, then upgrade everything (!) to K10, update everything through Service Center, install Kontrol for K10 and see if everything works as expected. If not, I would uninstall everything and start with a fresh K10 installation.

:) My experience is when you have one person who had problems and more than once It's most likely the person not the product. Read your installation manual, The best advice you can take. As far as your Komplete Kontrol S61 working with Komplete 9, there should be no problem. The keyboard controllers were made to work with both 9 and 10. When you get your new software uninstall 9. Install 10 and your off to the races enjoy 10.

Tell me I am wrong but if he has komplete 9 and buys an "update" to 10 he is buying update files, not the complete, Komplete files?
For instance, if I do a totally fresh win install I would have to install K9 then the K10 update files.

I have an impression that, although there is new software in K10, some of the K9 has not changed.

As far as I know, you can uninstall K9 and do a fresh K10 install. I'm not 100% sure, but from my understanding the upgrade is more a licence thing.

If you don't want to uninstall K9, make sure, that you update ALL instruments and effects or you build up a version mix, that causes issues with Kontrol and further updates through Service Center.

I decided to wait for the update to arrive via post and then connect my komplete kontrol keyboard when I have everything updated. And I think that robert100 is correct because Native instruments offer 4 or even more different versions of komplete 10 (upgrade, update, crossgrade, full version...) and I qualify for the update version cause I already own komplete 9, meaning I only get the instruments that were not in komplete 9 but are featured in komplete 10 - that's why it's cheaper than the crossgrade version of komplete 10 where you get everything that was in komplete 9 + everything that is in komplete 10 ( I'm not talking about the ULTIMATE KOMPLETE 10 !!! )

Thanks everyone for your help and kindness, I will report how everything goes later this week in case someone has the same questions as me :)

You should be able to install the keyboard driver and use it as a pure MIDI keyboard without any risk untill K10 arrives. i did that

Why then is K10 Ultimade Upgrade for K9 delivered on HDD like the normal Ultimate?

We'll see, what you'll have to report after you recieved your upgrade package.

That is not how it works. The software is exactly the same in every version, the licence is different for each version and the licence key is the... well, key to what you get.

You can do a clean install with an upgrade version, the installer will demand to see your Komplete 10 upgrade key and the key of the Komplete 9 software you are upgrading from and then do a full install of Komplete 10.

As far as I know you don't just get update files it's the full version all the files are the same in the upgrade versions. A upgrade is just the way the package is compiled to look for a confirmation that you own a prior version. That's why you get it at the upgrade price. You can leave older libraries in that might not be in Komplete 10 and they will work in 10. The different upgrades and full version are all the same, just install and don't worry about it. Enjoy have a great day

Seriously, (on Windows, at least) it is perfectly safe to just install Komplete 10 on top of Komplete 9. You can even de-select pre-existing K9 packages in the K10 setup program that you already have installed to speed up the process (and actually, some people HAVE to do that, because of the way Komplete calculates required disk space before installing). The only time that doing this (unchecking already-installed applications when installing a new Komplete on top of a previous one) is no longer recommended is when going from a version of Komplete earlier than Komplete 9 to K10... this is because Komplete Kontrol will only work with products that were installed or upgraded by a K9 or K10 installer.

There was a very long thread started several weeks ago by a guy who had a ton of problems after doing a custom install when upgrading from Komplete 8 to Komplete 10, because Komplete Kontrol rejected his pre-existing Komplete 8 products (without giving a meaningful error message). I haven't seen or heard of any such problems happening with Komplete 9 users who upgraded.
