We are be offered an opportunity to pay in advance for updates that we don't yet know about. It may be a good price but it would be useful to get some idea on what is changing. Many of us have the bundle because it was a good deal but do not necessarily use every part of it. There are some products I am very interested in when they change and some I don't care so much about (perhaps wait until the Komplete 3 upgrade offer !!). Any ideas/hints on what is in the schedule ?

Yes, I'd second that. It would good to get some idea of what updates we're likely to get for our money. I'd guess that Kontakt 2 could appear, but I'm not sure what else.

If Absynth 3 is a 2004 update where tf is it then?
3 weeks remaining till new years.

    anyhoo,
any ideas how much the upgrade to A3 would be for a Komplete2 user?
surely theres an update just for a3?

299 seems a little expensive as we have no idea what, if anything is in store for the year. propa made it sound like it was E50 for the lot, that i think would be much more of a sensible price seeing as weve all done this $o many time$ and $pent $o much damn $

    hahahaa

That says to me that as a Komplete 2 user you have a registered copy og Absynth 2, hence the update will cost US119

Thats what I thought as well, E50//US$60 would have been a much more sensible price.

For me, as an ongoing maintenance price for software, US$279 or US$339 is very steep.

Assuming you brought Komplete 2 for the full retail price of US$1,149 that works out at 24.3% or 29.5% of base cost...

(I can't be bothered crunching more numbers, but you get the drift.)

In my occasional freelance work, I do consulting with accounting systems.

Average base maintenace cost vs Software cost is usally about 18%; but this includes a 24 hour freecall support centre, the software fully installed and configured on-site by a consultant, 10 days credit for on-site work by a consultant etc etc

Basically, what originally seemed like a pretty good deal to me & like Requim I thought it was going to be E50/US$60 or so.... dosn't seem that crash hot to me.

Rumours of Kontakt 2 or Reaktor 5 are all well and good. But I would like a commitment from NI or some kind of timeline for what will be released...

NI do not necessarily have a good track record with me as far as software updates, stability and release times... on their track record it may be too much of a gamble.....

Then again, if you go with it later in the year you get all the updates for 2005 as well.... may be worth sitting back and seeing what gets released.

    Regards,
    Rusty

On another forum, an NI rep stated that some announcements about upcoming products will likely be made at NAMM (which is usually in January, right?). BTW, I am *not* an NI rep...

So, hang in there, and you may get a better idea then.

    UK Music Retailers

Online retailers in the UK are selling the Komplete Care package for GBP199.00 and the text suggests that there will be a minimum of 4 upgrades included for 2005 (although not indicating which products will be upgraded).

I just recieved A2 yesterday. I've been drooling over it for months and finally parted with my cash. I must admit I hadn't checked NI's website for some time, so when I did I was a little concerned to see Absynth 3 was about to be released, and alarmed that I might have to pay for an upgrade. Seeing the "grace period" line reassured me a bit, but when will that be spelled out?

It sounds like the release of A3 is a bit tenuous if things like this are left up in the air. Considering that it's getting very deep into December, and A3 is supposed to be a 2004 release, where's the beef?

The grace period started on Nov 25th, so if you bought after that date, you're cool.... grace period upgrades should be available soon in the NI shop, according to this:

Yes, thanks... I've been monitoring it. I'm anxious to get the upgrade because it looks like the layout is a lot more compact and user friendly. A2 is quite wonderful though, in spite of all its little floating bits.

But if you bought just before that date, like I did, you are shafted for an extra 99 euros.

I might add that I knew that Absynth 3 was coming out and thought that I could delay my purchase until release. I (stupidly) assumed that the grace period was intended to stop people from delaying their purchases after the new product was announced.

I realise now that it was actually just a scam that seems to have caught quite a few people.

There will always be a start date to the grace period, and there will always be someone who bought the product the day before that. It was possible to wait until the actual start date was announced before buying. I feel sorry for you, but I'm not sure why you think this is a scam??? Sounds more like someone didn't do their homework....

No scam.. you were just unfortunate. Quit blaming NI and blame it on yourself for being too eager to buy the product and play with it!!

Actually, a grace period that only extends three weeks prior to the release of a new version is essentially meaningless. Check around and you will see that 60 to 90 days is common and fair to customer and company. Extending the grace period nine weeks beyond the release of the new version is just odd at best. I am guessing NI is assuming there's no reason to make much of an effort because most customers will simply line up to upgrade and pay whatever the cost is. It isn't a scam, but it also isn't very customer-friendly either.
