Upgrading to MKII, what to do with the MKI

Hi guys,
I will upgrade to the MKII, I want to have decent cue play and hot cues keys.
I am now thinking about selling/giving as a gift the old MKI.
While it's easy to me understanding what to do with the hardware, what with the software?
Is the MKII coming with a new licence?
Is the MKI software licence good for the MKII?
Can I give the new MKI owner the new licence and keep the old for me?

The new MK2 will come with a new serial number for Traktor Pro2.
The hardware and software are linked and must be used together.

You can enter the new serial number into Service Centre and reactivate your Traktor with the serial number. Your Traktor will not change and you can continue to use your current installation. You MUST backup before doing this.

You must also have the latest version of Traktor installed before you enter the new serial number.

To sell your S4MK1 you have to sell the software with it. So, when you have registered the new serial number you can file a Support form to have the original serial number taken off your account.

When you connect the S4MK2 to Traktor for the first time, Traktor will copy your TSI (you may have modified it) for use with the S4MK2 and you will have a new Controller Mapping for the S4MK2 in the Controller Editor.

You should supply the original disc with the S4MK1.

Karlos, I've a slightly more complicated situation that I would appreciate your help with regarding the licences

I initially bought a DDJ T1 to use with traktor, I then upgraded from the manufacturers edition to traktor pro, and then upgraded it to traktor pro 2 when it was released.

I then sold the ddjt1 with the manufacturers edition it came with - leaving me with the traktor 2 upgraded edition. I then bought a s2 that already came with a traktor 2 licence. I decided it would be less hassle to get rid of this included licence than to get rid of the traktor 2 (upgraded licence from traktor pro) that I already had.

I assumed if I ever wanted to sell the s2 mk1 (if I was upgrading) I could include the software included with the upgraded controller with my old unit - as again it would be less hassle that selling the copy I've always had as I understand the person would need to download and install traktor pro first then upgrade to traktor pro 2 after that!

From what you say above you can only use the mk2 version software with a mk2 controller. This puts me in a bit of a pickle...

Is there any way for me to exchange my 2 serial numbers for traktor pro and the traktor pro 2 upgrade for a normal traktor 2 serial soi can sell the s2 with minimal fuss?

Also can the software included with the mk2 be upgraded to traktor scratch pro2, if I ever felt the need to use it with vinyl?

 

The simple answer to this mate is to contact support .
Your case is complicated and on the surface it would that you have separated linked software and hardware . What is odd is that you must have unregistered the manufacturers edition which means that the upgrade would be be installable if no qualifying product was present on your account (M.E) This might be because you still have the "base product" which is actually the hardware.

Out of my depth on this one, sorry.

I might not have upgraded from the me edition ,but bought the full version of traktor pro, then upgraded that to traktor pro 2

The more i think about it now From memory at the start there was a issue upgrading the early pioneer edition with the ddjt1 to the full version, so I just bought the full version of traktor pro possibly!

But that still leaves me in the situation if I Definately can't sell the mk1 with the disk from the mk2. Will it Definately not work/successfully register?

 

As Karlos said you will need to contact support. They can check the details of what is registered to your account and advise you appropriately.

 

I plan on selling my s2 to get the mk2. I've never used the s2 disc nor registered it since I already own tsp. But for the lucky person who will buy it off me I'm just wondering if trpo is a free upgrade from the s2 software. I can't remember if it was.

 

Dunno mate. I think that offer has gone but maybe NI will honour it still. I'm afraid that's another question for support.

The S2 has only ever come with Traktor Pro as far as I know.

 

This. ^^ Only the s4 came with it own special brand of Traktor before being offered an upgrade to TP2.

 

Ah ha, great! I never took a look a the cds that came with the s2, usually I coaster the discs that come with the gear I buy.

I just unburied the box and it says it comes with tp2 software with a card to download it
