I'm guessing people gotta use em, so what do I need and what can I run off one hub?
Just got Komplete Kontrol with Komplete Ultimate. Have everything up and running with one minor hitch. I have a Macbook Pro with only 2 USB ports but need 3 (minimum) for home use with RME Babyface as I have the sound files on a seperate USB hard drive. I can get away with it in my studio where I have a Firewire interface (using Thunderbolt converter), although there I would like to run, or at least have connected, my V-Drums as well as the KK S88. Maybe a few other midi toys too. I have a powered USB hub but assume it's faulty. Nothing is getting through.
What do people use and are there any protocols for what to use on it's own, assuming you can. Sound card?, KK S 88?, Heard drive?

    Thanks for the info Kymeia
Bit hard to find anyone who has ever heard of MTT or STT in the shops and nothing is labeled as either. Ended up buying a Targus USB 3.0 7-port with a 4amp power supply. That's after I took the first one back to the shop once I found out it was Windows only. Actually I presume that was the issue with the USB hub I had in the beginning. That's after telling the "expert" at least 4 times I wanted it for a Macbook. Anyway this one works and just for the hell off it I plugged all 3 items into it and one USB on the Macbook. Handled it no problem so I should have plenty for extra midi toys in the studio with the Firewire sound card. Absolutely stoked with Komplete Ultimate and the keyboard is gorgeous to play. The fully weighted keys really come into their own with the piano sounds.
With the bit of reading I have done I get the idea that this MTT/STT thing has more to do with USB 1-2 than it does with USB3.0. Is this correct? I run V-drums through an old Behringer BCF2000 and suspect that may be USB1. I'll look into it further. Given the sound card, Hard drive and KK s88 all run fine through the hub, my guess is that in the studio when using the Firewire sound card I would be best running the BCF2000 on it's own USB slot. The Hard drive and KKs88 via the hub. Any thoughts on that?

The MTT hub I linked to (which is what I use) is USB 2 but most sound interfaces and midi controllers are still USB 2, including the Babyface, I don't think using a USB 3 hub gives you any advantage for USB 2 devices, it would enable extra bandwith for USB3 devices but not USB 2 ones; for those a MTT hub still has the advantage.

There is one USB3 MTT hub I am aware of though:

but for USB 2 devices I would still go with the cheaper one I linked to

Not sure if you'll see this but this is (almost)exactly what I was looking for, didn't know about MTT so that's really helpful thanks. The only problem is, the length of the USB lead from the hub to the MacBook seems tiny(21cm?).

The reason this is such a big deal - one of the places I DJ weekly has the worst DJ box set up in the world. The only way I can connect from my MacBook to the CDJ2000's/X1 is by running cables from the other side of lighting computer, right behind it to the decks so I need quite a bit of cable. It's a stretch with my current hub on a 3m cable then a 3m cable coming from the hub to the furthest deck. Would anyone here trust a 6m+ USB AtoB cable? The internet seems conflicted on the reliability of longer AtoB cables so don't know what to believe...

    Thanks for any help.
