When I am in cubase and bring up any combination of amps and effects and I turn on the correct monitoring setting I can hear all of my effects and when I change settings in effects I can hear the changes in my headphones. In addition, on the main amp/cabinet I can see signal is getting to the cabinet as the bars go up and down. However, when I am not in cubase recording, I would like to open guitar rig by itself and play around with the different amps and effects and hear all the different sounds and tones and hear how the sound changes when I adjust knobs on cabinets like phlanger, phaser, and compression, and so on... Is it possible to use guitar rig by it self and use it like regular gear or not. Do I have to be in Cubase to hear the full effect. I wouldn't think so. If it is helpful I am using Komplete Audio 6 audio interface and I am listening to myself play through headphones as they come out the front of the audio interface and not a pair of monitors. The audio interface does have direct monitoring and I have played around with this but it does not seem to change my ability to listen to the guitar as I want to.

Let me try and simplify to generate a response. When using my audio interface, I can hear my electric guitar while plugged in no matter what. But if all I have open is guitar rig all I hear is the guitar which I am sure is driven by the amp in the audio interface. I am not hearing it run through any of the amps I have brought up in my guitar rig rack. and the amp in GR does not show it is receiving any signal. Now if I open cubase and then play guitar rig through cubase, I hear it run through the rack in GR and any effects I have loaded. In addition, I can see that the amp loaded has signal running through it. Please help. Hope this simplifies my question. Thank you.

You need to make sure that the in-/outputs (of the KA6) are set up correctly in the audio settings of Guitar Rig standalone:

Thanks Solger. i found the video and instructions quite helpful. However, I am having one technical glitch. When I go under file and audio Midi Settings I set my KA6 as my audio interface. But then when I go under routing to set the out put from KA6 the only audio interface option I have to choose is guitar rig. When I click on the far right tab (MIDI) it shows my KA6 being on. I assume if I could see my KA6 AI as an option under input/output it would connect and work fine, but currently I am still in the same situation. I will say i can see in GR at the top, the the meter is picking up a signal and i have played with the gain next to the meter, but I am pretty sure my issue revolves around not having my setting correctly in my configuration. Any last words of advice, I think I am close. thanks for your help.

You should have the following settings:

    1) Audio Tab:
    Driver [ASIO]
    Device [Komplete Audio 6]

    2) Routing-Tab - Inputs
    Guitar Rig In L --- [1: Input 1 L]
    Guitar Rig In R --- [2: Input 2 R]

You need to click on the labels on the right (like [1: Input 1]) to get a drop-down list with the available inputs (for the selected audio device in the audio-tab). It often gets overlooked by users that you can click on the input/output-labels.

    For the KA6 you should have 6 options for the inputs with something like: Input 1 L, Input 2 R, Input 3 L, Input 4L, S/PDIF Input L and S/PDIF Input R
So in case you're having your guitar plugged into KA6-input-1 on the front, make sure you have the following setting:
    Guitar Rig In L --- [1: Input 1 L]
Now you have set (mono) KA6-input 1 L to be Guitar Rig's Left [L] input.

    3) Routing-Tab - Outputs
The same principle as in the Input-tab: click on the labels on the right to get the drop-down list for the available outputs (of the selected audio device in the audio-tab). So for using KA6 main outputs-1/2 it looks like:

    Guitar Rig Out L --- [1: Main Output L]
    Guitar Rig Out R --- [2: Main Output R]

    4) Guitar Rig header
Check the settings (input IN [L] enabled, etc ...)

I actually did see that drop down last night and I have it set up as you have described. I should let you know I don't have speakers/monitors hooked up to my KA-6. I am listening to my guitar through the headphone jack from the front of my KA-6. On the KA-6 next to the headphone jack is the monitor section. It has an option for mono or stereo and a button for direct monitoring as well as a volume knob. With my direct monitor switch activated I can hear my guitar but with no effects. With it off, I hear nothing at all. I thought this may be an issue since it is what gets rid of all the effects to negate latency. Should I be able to hear my guitar through my headphone jack with monitoring completely turned off? Lastly, on the computer screen I should see signal going through the amp in the rack, but I don't. At the top of top of GR, in the header, I see where signal is getting in, but then nothing in the rack below shows it is getting signal, except the tuner. Thank you again for sticking with this.

The direct monitoring feature on the KA6 allows you to directly monitor the (unprocessed or clean) input signal of your guitar: https://www.native-instruments.com/...nitoring-feature-work-in-my-komplete-audio-6/

With direct monitoring off, you should hear the (processed) output signal of Guitar Rig via KA6 main output 1/2 through the headphone jack. (of course in case your output settings in Guitar Rig are correct and output 1/2 is selected in the KA6 headphone section)

It's hard to guess without seeing a screenshot ...

I can only suggest to try the following:

    (1) Make a new empty preset (via File --> New Preset) with no components or nothing else loaded in the rack
    (2) Check the input/output settings in the header and the preferences like mentioned in the link I already posted above (post #3): http://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/knowledge-base/show/943/i-cannot-get-any-sound-output-from-guitar-rig-5/ until the audio signal chain from input to output is working.

Now in case you load, make or change a preset or rack and still having problems with the audio signal chain:
    (a) Check or adjust your input gain (either on the KA6 or in Guitar Rig's header)
    (b) Go through the components in the rack and check the audio signal flow and settings there
    (c) etc ...

In general I would also highly recommend to have a look at the manuals that come with the KA6 and Guitar Rig ...
