    Hello !

I am curently having trouble using Kontakt with Reaper. I know I should add Kontakt VSTs to Reaper but I can't find them.

As I am quite new to MAO, I can't tell the diffence between files such as .dll or .nki. Maybe an explanation could resolve my problem.

    Thank you very much.

P.S.: Please forgive my poor level of knowledge and language (I'm french)

Hello Syd0w and welcome to the forum.

If you cannot see the file extensions, turn them on in Explorer > Folder Options > View> untick "Hide extensions for known file types"

The Kontakt VSTi files end with .dll. Depending on whether you are using the 64-bit or 32-bit edition of Reaper, add the folder for the 64-bit or 32-bit editions of the Kontakt VSTis to Reaper's VST plug-ins path. When you installed Kontakt you should have had the chance to pick the folders; if not, then Search your complete disk for "Kontakt" to find them.

.nki files are data files, defining Kontakt's instruments.

No, that's not possible. Run a system-wide search for Kontakt 5.dll to see where it's located, then point Reaper to that folder.

It's quite weird. I can use Kontakt with no problem but really can't find the VSTi files.

    What OS?

If the Search does not find them then either it is nt searching the complete disk or some folders are hidden / protected.

You need to go to in reaper, select options at the top then select Preferences in the bottom of the list . Then on the left side scroll down to "VST" and select that... select the "add button" on the upper right side.

Now this will take you to your folders where Kontakt is ( look in Program files or program files X86 ).. Once in there You may have to look in the folder marked VST to find it, once you find it select it, hit ok and hit apply then select rescan and it should show up from now on. You are creating a direct path for reaper to find it.
