Using MIDI Output for DAW Midi Notes/Clock

I have a MK2 S61 and I can't seem to get the MIDI clock (or recorded midi data) to come out of the output of the unit. I have an MPC with cables running to/from the Kontrol.

I can get MIDI from the MPC (to the Kontrol's MIDI In) to record in my DAW. It's even on it's own bus separate from the Kontrol's MIDI In Buss, which is great!

But when I select any of the MIDI outputs associated with the Kontrol in my DAW, no data comes from the MIDI out into the MPC.

    What am I missing?

Are you using 5pin Din midi cables? DO you also have USB lead plugging in as well? If so unplug the usb lead. KK cannot use Midi Din with usb plugged in.

How am I suppose to get communication from my DAW to the KK without USB? I want to send MIDI notes (recorded in my DAW) and MIDI Clock (from my DAW) to the MPC which is using both MIDI DIN jacks on the KK.

The KK's MIDI input passes notes from the MPC and relays them through the USB into my DAW. I just can't get it to do the reverse.

Are you saying that the MIDI out is only for sending data from the keyboard itself and not what is coming through the USB? If so, what is the purpose of the three outputs my DAW has detected? ("KOMPLETE KONTROL -1", "Komplete Kontrol DAW - 1" and "KOMPLETE KONTROL EXT - 1")

you cannot use both midi din and usb at same time.

Clarifcation: you cannot use both the midi OUTPUT and the USB at the same time. You CAN use the midi INPUT and the USB at the same time.

Just another "quirk" to suck up when using NI products! A shame to have to use an additional MIDI interface. Oh well.

I had read this before, but was hoping that it didn't mean that the KK didn't have the ability to send clock information from a DAW to it's output.

However, the MIDI input port DOES transfers data to the USB port (and in turn, to the DAW). My last USB MIDI controller sent MIDI from the USB/DAW to it's output port when directed. It's a pretty old board too, so I'm surprised at the absence of this functionality in a current product.

I would be curious to know what the three MIDI output ports for the KK (found in my DAW) are used for. Without knowing their design intention, it appears like they just didn't finish implementing the MIDI output functionality.

Looks like this is already on a Feature Request Wishlist from back in 2014-15 and there are people still asking for it today (literally). I guess I won't hold my breath!
