    Hi,

I'd like to use the following signal chain and don't know how to do it in GR4:

    1 - Instrument -> Kontrol Input (1)
    2 - GR4's Skreamer, Wah, (...)
3 - out to an external Preamp (Output 1)
    4 - (ext. Preamp)
    5 - back to GR4 (Input 2)
    6 - Cab Sin, Reverb, Delay, (...) from GR4
    7 - Out to pa (Output 2)

The extrernal Preamp should be switches by Midi (from the Kontrol).

Of course I could put the preamp in front of the Kontrol but then wah, boost etc. would not be pre distortion...

Such setup is possible with LiveProfessor (using RK as Midi Controller) but misses the preset function.

I cannot find a solution to build the branch out to my hardware - maybe anyone has an idea?

    Thanks for reading!

    Andy

(for those who also read guitarampmodelling.com: ok - it's a double post...)

    Hi

    Here's what I would try:
    - Plug the guitar in Left Input
    - Plug the Left Output in the PreAmp Input
    - Plug the PreAmp Output in the Right Input channel
    - Plug the Right Output in the P.A
    - Clear all effects
    - Add a Split component. Enable Stereo Input L/R split, and pan A to the Left and B to the Right
    - Add Skreamer, Wah,... in Split A
    - Add Cab Sim, Reverb,... in Split B

I expect the guitar to go in the left channel, be processed by split A, go the PreAmp, come back by the right channel, be processed by split B, and then go to the P.A.

Now for controlling the PreAmp from the Kontroller, you'll probably need to setup your Kontroller as MIDI (Controller Editor) and plug a midi cable from the Out of the Kontroller to the In of the PreAmp. But I don't know if messages will also be carried out by USB to GR4 so that you can control both.

    Cheers.

can't use Rig Kontrol as BOTH a control device for Guitar Rig in Stand alone AND as a MIDI controller. And as you already know, using GR4 within a VST host presents problems when it comes to changing presets.

Other than that, I believe the physical routing described by Roming22 is accurate, at least on paper.

One option, probably not very desirable, would be to give up on the Rig Kontrol pedal, use a discrete audio/midi I/O interface, and then set up Guitar Rig software standalone under the control of the MIDI pedal board. A unit like the Behringer FCB1010 (relatively short $$$) allows you to send the controller data needed for Guitar Rig to recognize and assign/learn functions to your "virtual" RK pedal board, and will also allow patch changes to be sent out on up to 5 MIDI channels.

I know exactly where you're coming from. When I first purchased Guitar Rig Kontrol 3, I was hoping to be able to control GR software and ALSO trigger samples from either an external hardware sampler via MIDI, or a software sampler via the standard MIDI cc# assign/learn function. I quickly realized the limitations of the RK3 in this respect.

Just curious - what preamp is it that you're using that would necessitate your desire to route Guitar Rig in this manner?

note to NI developers of Guitar Rig for future releases:

    - RK pedal with a stereo FX loop, assignable via a NEW Guitar Rig software FX LOOP component tool, so that a user is able to freely use an external processor and locate it anywhere within the GR virtual rack chain.

This would be a nice feature IMO.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried this with a distortion pedal and it seems to work - will give the preamps a try the next days...
