Using Reaktor 5 to voice-steal softsynths in Logic Pro X?

I'm trying to use Reaktor to do something for which the logic is very simple, but whether it's possible routing-wise in Logic X, I don't know and would like to find out.

Say I've got 3 tracks using Softsynths. I'll call them a group. I'd like them to voice steal each other. That is, if there's a note-on or particular midi event on track 1, we switch the output of the group to track 1 only. If there's a note-on or special event on track 3 a moment later, the group output switches to track 3 only.

I figured I could use a selector module and some environment cabling to handle the midi side of things, but is it possible to route audio from Logic tracks into multiple corresponding Ins in one Reaktor ensemble? My idea was to pipe all the audio into the ensemble and then just choose which one makes it to the audio out based on midi.

Is this possible? If so, how does one route it up?

    Thanks for any help.

No input as to whether this is even possible?

Hi djimbe, sorry that no one has replied yet, have you gotten any further here? I don't exactly use Logic X, but anyway, at first read of your question, in my mind it seems possible what you want to accomplish. I would actually have to set this up in Live in my case (and I think Logic X wouldn't be much different), and try for myself, but Reaktor seems like a good candidate for the job.

I hope I understood your question correctly therefore I made a quick setup in Live and a took a screen just show ing that I am streaming audio through Reaktor FX 16x16 so 16 in 16 out, which go all into one instrument where I can very well imagine that you can create the audio and midi routing behavior you would like to have, as I said I don't use Logic but I think it's well capable of the same thing with Reaktor FX 16x16

Thanks Sacha. I wouldn't have a problem doing this in Live, as I know that there you can explicitly set the output of any audio/midi track to go to the particular inputs of a Reaktor on another channel. But Logic never had that facility. And I'm a bit out of touch with how Reaktor is working with Logic per se.

    For instance-

    1. It used to be that it was literally impossible to route MIDI/audio into the Audio Unit version of Reaktor (in Live). That was a few years ago, but the workaround was easy - use the VST version. In Logic, you can't use a VST without a wrapper. And I don't know if the audio unit situation has changed.

    2. The only example I've found of a person routing audio to Reaktor in Logic achieved 2 channels maximum by monofying both channels and sending them to the left and right of the only input they could get at. They did this to power a Reaktor Vocoder:

I couldn't find a Reaktor 16x16 but I assume that is a VST? I'm in Logic and just looking at the single audio unit I've got.

Hi again, yes indeed that was the VST version, I'm surprised that there are those limitations with Logic, last time I touched logic is really long ago. But looking at the AU version in Live it offers 1-8 inputs, so this should be equally possible with the AU version, using the FX version, but even the normal version seems to take 8 inputs, would have to try, however, I can't check this for you regarding Logic, so you'd really have to try, I thought routing in logic is really good, so I'm confused right now on how you really have to go about it in Logic, but I presume you can either work with busses (as this is a logic feature i think) or like in Live with tracks and then you route your tracks to that particular track, it should give you those 8 ins. However if that's not the case, I guess I hit a wall then.

Thanks. I may need to switch to Live for this project.
I began by trying to duplicate what your graphic showed me. So I found -
VST Reaktor FX = 2 inputs
VST Reaktor Surround = 6 inputs
AU Reaktor FX = 8 inputs
My only question is - where is this 16 x 16 VST? I have Reaktor 5.8 on OS X. My VST options are Reaktor, Reaktor FX, Reaktor 2x8 and Reaktor Surround.

Hi, sorry why would you not update to 5.9.4, any particular reason, 5.8 seems a little far back for me, Manual Addendum says 5.9.1 VST Support for 16 outputs. Of course in that case you can't find it.

Oops. I actually have 5.9.0. But that's still one version too early. So yeah, I just need to upgrade. Thanks.
