I have komplete 9 and surprisingly I cannot find any strings that could really be used for say electronic, dance or hip hop styles. I have tried using strings in kontakt, but they really always come out too rich and classical. Are there any strings that anyone is aware of on komplete or any other vst packages with such strings on? Here is an exmaple of the sound I'm after... http://www.looperman.com/loops?page=1&keys=stringsorchestra&dir=d

Did you try Session Strings that come with Komplete 9? Those should fit the bill, according to that sound example, IMHO...

Yes, but they really sound too sweet and channeled. I have tried all the strings in kontakt5 and they just don't right on a dance track.

I would imagine the sound you are after has its origins in EQ.

True, I'm a bit of a rookie so I need to really look in to amending the instrument myself

Record the strings and apply a touch of EQ rather than amending the instrument.

    Whoa, there.

What does "a touch of EQ" mean? I can still hear from 20 to 40 up to nearly to 20K (okay, maybe it's only 18K, and only in one ear; but I think, ergo I think I can hear it all!). But "a touch of EQ" means absolutely nothing to those of us sitting in the balcony seats (translation: lurkers), and I suspect it doesn't mean much to a rookie, such as how the OP described himself.

So can we have a "touch of" detail in this conversation? Hell, maybe I'll even learn something, which would be pretty friggin' cool! ;)

By the way, if one of you tries to describe EQ as "sounding dark" or "feeling bright", dammit I'm coming to your house with my percussion mallets!

Okay, just kidding. I don't really know where you live.
