hi guys, I was just wondering whether it is possible to use the Traktor mixer with an external mixer. Thing is I have a mixer but it is very limited equalisation control, so I would like to use the Traktor mixer for this, I would like to keep the hands on feel of my faders however.

My problem is that as soon as I enable the Traktor mixer the same signal gets sent through both of my outputs and my external mixer is rendered useless.

    any ideas???

In short the version you have doesn't suport external mixers. Get Traktor DJ Studio, there is a demo version available on the web site, that will give you a month to try it out. That specifically supports external mixers.

Phil i think he is trying to use traktor dj studio's mixer for certain functions and still be able to use his external mixer.
and the answer is no you either have to use the mixer in traktor or your external mixer....you can't use both....if you check the box saying use external mixer this disables the traktor mixer and if you leave the use external mixer box unchecked this will disable your external mixer.

    hope this answers your question

Well.......it is actually possible to use both the internal mixer AND an external mixer at the same time by using a little "trick".

    1. Open both channel faders fully in the internal mixer.
    2. Put the x-fader in the internal mixer all the way to channel A.
    3. Click the pre-listen (headphone) button for channel B in the internal mixer.
    4. Hook up the master out from your soundcard to channel A on your hardware mixer.
    5. Hook up the pre-listen channel from your soundcard to channel B on your hardware mixer.
    6. Adjust the pre-listen level so it matches the level of your master output.

Now you're ready to use both the internal mixer as well as the external mixer.
This trick is quite useful if you want to use kill-switches when your external mixer lack them or maybe for some system equalization when the sound guys haven't done their job properly.

The easiest way to go (not the cheapest) is to control the fader and the EQ of Traktor with an exteranl MIDI controleur.
With such controleur you can have fader and knobs to turn as if you were with your traditional mixer.
All you have to do is assign all the control to functions in Traktor and you are ready to rock.

    nice littel trick pixeltrance...

You will still need some sort of midi control to control more than on eq knob at a time as doing this with the mouse is not possible.

The closest midi controler to a traditional DJ mixer (with faders, x-fader and eq knobs) is the FaderFox (www.faderfox.de).

Only gripe I have about the internal mixer + MIDI controller is the x-fader response. There is a slight 'lag' when you move it using a MIDI controller (using a mouse directly to move the on screen fader there is no lag).
