Make sure you have set midi in AND out to the VCI-100... the lights will toggle on and off and light up on hold and stuff where appropriate

Is anyone using the TSI created by Ean Golden at DJTECHTOOLS?

I was looking for some jogGrips and found their site. I saw his name in another thread regarding overlays for the VCI, but for those that don't know, it turns out this guy has his own custom firmware (1.3) and TSI file that Vestax implemented in a "Special Edition" limited to only 100 units that sold out in 2 days.

I'm still using the evolving TSI file modified by Timtango, but Ean's TSI allows the use of Decks A, B, and C using a modifier. The Deck faders allow you to adjust the FXs. Also, you can quickly scroll through your browser using the left jog wheel.

I watched the vids on Youtube, and it looks sick. I was wondering if any one of you are using it? I'll check it out, and if its as good as the hype indicates, I'll be purchasing the black SE overlay sold on their website.

ean is using the 1.3 for special editions. i wouldn't bother going down that road as ean has spent and time money developing it for the sale of the special units. a while ago i liased with ean whilst building my firmware lead and i put an information pack together for him.
i would concentrate on making you own map with modifiers. you can do all of these functions yourself. there is a 'modifiers' section in the ni forums which may help. think of a modifier as a shift function. you can effectively use a modifier to control decks c & d. eans 1.3 will not do this without a tsi. on my tsi i have a modifier which when pressed the jog on deck not playing acts as a browser. and modifier + up maximises the browser. there are no real limits to what you can do but the more complex the functions you need to remember. i've attached my tsi and a pic of my vci with function labels. it takes a while to get your head around it but once the penny drops you'll be tinkering forever!

I will attempt to use your settings later today.

After using Ean Goldens TSI file, I made a quick comparison between Timtango's TSI file that I was using with TSP 1.0.1. In an email sent to me from DJTECHTOOLS, they said I can use my VCI with firmware 1.2 without upgrading to 1.3 as long as I upgrade TSP to 1.0.2. (Some functions wouldn't be available without firmware 1.3) After using it for a couple hours, heres what I deteremind:

These are basicly the difference. When I get home and mess with it more, I'll post my findings.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm also still using the last file I posted here. The only thing I'm missing a lot at the moment is the ability to jump my loop markers forward and backwards. Should be easy to set up but haven't tried yet. The other thing I want to add is a second shift key that works as a shift-lock to assign all the player controls (jog dials, transport buttons, pitch etc) to decks C + D to attempt some 4-deck mixing.
I took a look at Ean's work, but it seemed to be highly customised for the beat-juggling routines he likes to do and didn't suit my style.
I also think that a lot of the work he put in was around Traktor 3 limitations, and it's much simpler now to get some of his functionality in Traktor Pro.

not knocking eans style - cause he's probably a much better dj than me, but he's vci setup is built around loops and cues and beats if i'm not mistaken. i'm not sure if modifiers can be locked but i know what you mean. i think you'll have your work cut out though. might be easier to have 2 vci's if you really need to do this. my brain has enough to deal with with just 2 decks when i'm in the thick of it.

i'll look into it as it could prove interesting.

I'm tryin to get ean to look at ur tsi because I'm so spoiled with your preview/scrub functionality as well as your "move" settings. I don't really care for the loop settings he implimented but having yours and his in one tsi file would be sweet.

Having the hotcue readily available seems beneficial too even though hiphop is my primary genre of choice but I like setting beat markers for hooks, chorus, and other catchy parts of the song that listeners tend to have memorized. Based on his youtube videos, the center of the jogwheel acts as the 5th cue point, but for some reason it doesn't work on mine. Maybe because I don't have his firmware.

Ild be happy with yours if we could add the preview/platter nav function, loops, add hands free to the current shift button, as well as the hotcues. And since there are 4+4 buttons across the bottom, could we have them represent all 8 hotcues? Or is that even worth it, since you would have to designate a "master" deck in order for all 8 to work for both decks.
    ---
Tonights the first night I've been able to use Ean's TSI, extensively and I think its too advanced for me right now since I froze Trator Pro with it.

I wish there was a way to export these files into EXCEL, maybe there is, but I will compare both files side by side, and extract the functions I think will prove useful within TIMTANGOs file.

Wishlist: Functions barrowed from Ean Golden
-Left Jog Wheel library navigation (Large browser activation and deactivation upon loading)
    -Locked Modifier
    -4x Hotcues
    -Loop activation, Loop Length adjustment
--BONUS* DECK C FUNCTIONALITY USING DECK A CONTROLS

I wouldn't use deck C live, I don't think, unless I'm sampling; however, I did wish I had this during a recording session of one of my remixes because I was using 3 decks and it was a pain to use the keyboard as well as the controller to complete the project. Besides, I'm tired of seasoned SERATO users talking **** about Traktor. When I say it has 4 decks, their like, "what, you have 2 controllers?"

So it would be so cool to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it. Then when I want to show it off, I can.

Wish me luck, I'll post the TSI file upon completion.

should be easy.. can use 'focus', so that all 8 buttons apply to whichever deck is currently focussed. Or possibly use 'master' (not sure if this is possible) because Traktor does a good job of working out automatically which is the master deck, and my tsi gives the option of manually setting the master

Go take a look at the tsi viewers here -
    http://traktorbible.com/pages/tsiviewer.en.html

He has a very good Traktor midi doc too.

I'll put some work in soon and see how it goes

I added his "CUE JUGGLE" modifiers as well as the HOTCUE buttons to your TSI file but apparently that isn't all that I needed... I will try to use the TSI viewer, as excel froze trying to import so much truncated data.

So, after words, I began using his TSI file again, and I think I got the hang of it, the reason it was pissing me off is because I was using a slightly older OVERLAY instruction and the following bugs that I reported to DJTECHTOOLS.COM last night.

I've attached the correct overlay, but FX knob 4 just isn't going to work. However, Traktor will allow the user to indicate which FX presets to enable for each deck. So you could just choose FX preset number 1 for both decks since it seems to work just fine.

i've not tried using ean's tsi so what you are explaining about functions within his tsi is going over my head to be honest. i would start with a basic vci layout and add what you need. with regard to the exploded browser you may have to assign a button on the vci to preview under this mode.

    Vci-100se "bugs"

Sorry, simplysounds, I was replying to Timtangos last comment before my post. I tried your TSI as well and I like how your FX is laid out and how you illuminate the activated buttons. Nice concept.

Also, the "bugs" I experienced with the VCI-100SE TSI file aren't bugs actually. I guess they are known issues with firmware v1.2. They sell a DIY upgrade kit or you can mail in your unit to DJTECHTOOLS to have it modded. The neat thing about the upgrade is that it includes a hotswap mod that allows you switch between 1.2 and 1.3.

Ean claims to be working with NI in order to perform workarounds in the software to cricumvent the issues in 1.2, hence, you wont even need 1.3 to have the full functionality of the VCI-100SE TSI using the 1.2 firmware.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pq9dpq6PlGQ"]Switching between 1.3 and 1.2[/ame]

I've seen the video, but I cant confirm the link works, because the site is blocked at my current location. So, if it doesn't work, navigate over to youtube and search for EanGolden to watch the VCI-100SE videos.

Regardless, we can still just barrow the simple functions that we consider practicle with our DJing style. The abilty to navigate the library using a plater is very effective. I notice that I tend to use the mouse in my library as its more convienent, then the left and right arrows to load the track.

Zac Kyoti has created a TSI file worth raving about. It has the usability of Timtango's file, yet features the advanced functions of Ean Golden's VCI-100SE 1.3 settings.

Hears some pros and cons off the top of my head:

    Pros:
Timtango: beat jump, loops, up to 6 FXs using 1&2 for each deck.
Ean Golden: Juggle mode, Sample mode, DECK C mode, hotcues and advanced jogger based FX
Zac Kyoti: Juggle mode for hotcues, beat jump mode, Loops, Hotcues, advanced/chained FX based jogger.

    Cons:
    Timtango: No hotcues
Ean Golden: No Beatjump, had to add my own preview function, too advanced; need an overlay just to work the damn thing.
Zac Kyoti: Says it has a preview function, but its not working for me, yet.

Attached the file in a zip because it's 2mb. If it doesn't work, try retrieving it from the post below.

    Read Zac Kyoti's post here.

    Not A Stupid Question

Do You Think that Vestax or NI will give us next a complete maping for VCI-100 and TRAKTOR Pro :S ?
It's not because I don't want to work on it, but because a release of the software will change each parameter of an old maping

I tried the DEMO version on my PC and I very like the sound of effects
Soon I'll spend some time on grid, loop and parameters to make a comparative sheat between TRAKTOR Studio and TRAKTOR Pro :p

hey everyone i figured this would be the best thread for some responses.

Do any of you use an external soundcard with your vci-100? specifically the numark DJiO? I can't for the life of me figure out how to set it up with scratch pro. If any of you could give me some directions on how to use it for headphone queing i would be forever grateful. I've been trying to figure it out for a few weeks now with no luck :(

VCI 100 + Traktor Pro Map

Hi, I know this has been covered before but I need a fully working map for my VCI 100 and Traktor pro. The map that I have does not work properly (platters do not respond) The existing zips that have been posted seem to have expired.

    Thanks
    Tim

Tim, this is my map but you may want a standard one without my modifiers. There should be a standard one for pro out there somewhere as i'm sure it's been requested before. Most of my functions are standard.

    I use this same setup.

Plug the headphones into the soundcard jack port and the speakers/amp into the rca. Plug the i/o into the USB of your computer.

Start traktor. Go to audio setup and select your sound card. go to output routing? and choose which channels you want to send the output on. if you have a track playing and and another one selected as cue you should be able to hear once you have it right.

Sorry, dont have traktor in front of me so not sure if I used the exact names for everything.
    ---
Just get pro, it is an advancement. Stop being such a pussy, it doesn't take much work to set up. Going through the process of customizing it all helps you to understand traktor, your gear and how they interact. Look at it as a positive experience and it wont seam like such a big deal.
