    Hi

Has anyone with a Vestax VCM-100 midi controller got all the lights on the buttons working properly with Traktor Pro?

My VCM-100 worked fine with Traktor DJ Studio 3. All the lights on the buttons operated fine as they turned from yellow to blue when pressed, but they don't all do that with Traktor Pro. It seems that the second state (blue) has to be either on or off.

I've tried using the official VCM-100 .tsi file as well as tried my own custom settings, but still the lights don't do what they should/used to. I've spent hours trying all the different settings from -1 - 127, invert, blend etc.. and still no luck. I think that the fact that the even the official VCM-100 .tsi doesnt get the lights working properly, means that they just wont work as they used to (in the previous version of Traktor which used .tks files).

Well if any one out there knows what the hell I'm going on about and can shed some er, light ;-) on this, then please do?

    Thanks

I've successfully assigned all my mimy VCM-100

Yeah, I'm investigating Traktor Pro (don't wanna buy it till I know it's better than V3) and I've found this also. No idea how to change it either, sorry.

But this coupled with somewhat glitchy playback, no native mix record, no possibility to change the font size on the decks (they're much much too big for my 1280x900 desktop) etc means I problably won't be buying it until some of these issues have been addressed.

I have to say I'm not really liking it very much so far. It just doesn't feel finished.

Okay, you probably have already done this but you need to make sure that:

under midi setup - output devices - USB Audio Device or the name of your device has an "X" beside it

    when setting up the LED:
Interaction - output & LED are chosen

LED Options: Controller range try either - min- 0, max- 1 OR min-1, max-1 (some of the LEDs on my VCI-100 need to be set this way to work)

also sometimes the LED note is different from the button note.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the ideas Fresh519, however, I've tried this and it doesn't allow me to even enter those - values.

The play/stop button lights work perfectly (yellow off & blue on) and I've now compaired them to all the other buttons. The difference is that the play/stop buttons have 'Toggle' as an option in the midi set up whereas the others dont have that option (just hold & trigger), this is the problem I think as this is connected to the Output LED configuration.

Native Instruments need to fix this by maybe implementing Toggle into all the button options, or maybe this is Vestax's problem? I doubt it but god knows, but it's pretty infuriating because all this worked fine before with the previous version of Traktor & lights are important when yoru used to them working well in a dark club.

Basically, if the official VCM-100 (& VCI for that matter) settings that shipped with Traktor Pro don't work properly then that obviously means that there's an issue with this that NI needs to fix.

    Maybe not so Pro eh?

    Min: 0 Max: 1 OR Min: 1 Max: 1

No minus values, sorry for the confuse.

The buttons on my Vestax VCI-100 are all different (toggle, trigger, hold, etc) and sometimes the LED notes are even different from the button itself. Whats important is choosing the right Command Assignment, the Controller range and the note needed for the button and LED. Even if you have to play around abit to find what works. Also check the VCM-100 MIDI map in your manual or use a program like MIDI-OX to see the actual note value your button is sending and receiving, (it maybe more then one). Section 15.1.2 MIDI Mapping in the TPro manual is also helpful.

I understand this can be frustrating at times however what worked in T3 may work differently in TPro. I accepted this from the start and built a map for my controller that's much better then any NI preset. I have all my LEDs working, I even got them to work with modifier switches. And so have alot of other people.

I never even tried the VCI-100 preset and I built my own controller map with all the LEDs working.

Actually it is very Pro, and I like it alot better then T3.

Ha, if it is, good luck trying to get Vestax to fix it. I have to give Kudos to NI here because as far as I can see their forums and tech support are quite possibly the best I've ever encountered. Try getting some help or aftersales service for a Vestax product online - it's lucky they build their gear well, cos if you need help when you have a fualt or a query, you're basically screwed

Thanks again Fresh519 for all that info. Sounds like you've spent a lot of time looking into all this and obviously I haven't. I'll check out MIDI-OX and the VCM-100 MIDI map in the manual and post my findings.

And voodoobass your right NI do offer a great and responsive support service, unlike vestax. My comment about my vestax product was purley that it's built well. I had previously tried to contact vestax on many occasions with different queries and like you say, they ignore their customers. Unlike Native Instruments forum, the vestax forum is a joke.

yeah, the VCM is a lovely solid bit of kit. you may have seen on another thread though, I was having real problems getting it to work with Vista, eventually I contacted Vestax's UK distributor asking for help, and after a week they basically told me I'd be better off reinstalling XP on my system "because it will be a long time before we do anything".

    midi mapping vcm-100

i finally get the lights to work correctly and i like to share my midi mappings with you. I configured to setups:

    Setup 1 - Standard

f1: Deck A "key on off"

    f2: Deck A "Loop active"

    f3: Deck B "Loop active"

f4: Deck B "key on off"

    Setup 2 - Filter

The balance rotary knobs are used for the filters of the mixer.
    Balance Deck A = Filter Deck A
    Balance Deck B = Filter Deck B

    f1: Deck A "Filter on/off"

    f2: Deck A "Loop active"

    f3: Deck B "Loop active"

    f4: Deck B "Filter on/off"

    enjoy :)

Same problem here... LED lights all read as orange on my VCM with traktor Pro.

I'm relatively new to traktor.... Can I ask where I would input the LED values (ie. Min: 0 Max: 1 OR Min: 1 Max: 1) that people are talking about?

now there is a brand new tsi from vestax on the official site.
it solves led problems, but doesn't solve other problems like fine+- buttons, accuracy with pitch control, volume in master (very low) and in preview-central button (very loud).
maybe vestax consider vcm-100's users like a low level users...
