from premium membership fees, royalties from controler manufcturesrs, the new pro buyers, they sell loads of swag like t-shirts, mugs, thongs, baseball caps etc etc.

the guys over at atomix must be doing something right though if they can afford to offer free upgrades for life. they are also always in the top 3 list of dj software. they keep up with Rane and NI so theres deffo something going right.

if you think about it, if they can afford to give free upgrades then imagine how much more advanced VDJ would be compared to the other softwares if they did charge again to improve developments ;). even with their current developent progress they still stay a strong rival of the other 2 top developers and clearly give both Rane and NI a run for their money.

well for a start you arent going to get anywhere near the revenue from merchandise than you would from selling the premium software, and as for being top 3 well i bet they are 3rd just ahead of their strongest rival probably intimidation. As for royalties from controllers its genarally the cheap ones that have vdj free so they are on the whole running a bit of a sub-standard product marketing plan.

completely understandable, but who knows? i would say there are a lot more lower end products sold than the high end pioneers, dennons etc.. so maybe it would balance out.

i really dont have much clue as to how or what they do raise the development budget or how its spent. all i know is they give free lifetime upgrades and theres always a lot of new developments with each new version.

stability is superb and features are flowing from every angle.

personally i dont see why a budget would be needed for develoment if there is a strong dedicated develpoment team to improve the software. pro users are also dedicated to testing and reporting bugs (if any are found). so i suppose the entire community from LE user to Production team all play their part in some way.

i dont think there would be a great need for a large development budget unless you want to pay more programmers. but as we all know too many cooks spoil the broth.

why over do the development of something that contains all VDJ does?

just my views and guestimates but again i dont really know anything about the budgets etc..

well if it says free updates for life and the company gets taken over it aint worth the paper its written on. Oakley sunglasses used to be guaranteed for life but now its only a year? thats what a take over does .

this sort of thing doesnt happen in all cases though. personally i dont see where the money traktor charges for the updated version goes... there isnt that much difference between Traktor pro and pro 2. but they still charged £299 or whatever for it.

im not upto date with the pricee so if im wrong please let me know. actually was it ore like £50 for existing pro users?

either way, they are charging for not really that much imo. or not that i can see. ive not long been using traktor and have yet to find something that makes me go oohhh i like this....

dont get me wrong here traktor seems to be highly respected and im not trying to say its any better or worse than vdj. we all have our preference.

my preference is to not have to buy the product again every year. i would rather pay a premium membershi to vdj of £120 a year and then have access to netsearch, genuois dj, and betport. all of which provide you with an extra 8 million tracks to have at your disposal whenever wifi is available. now that alone is more attractive to me than just paying for bug fixes...

if you want effects, id go for vdj, as you can download a huge amount of effecs you can use. as far as im aware traktor doesnt have effects plugins. also when ever i use traktor i can never seem to get the effects to work.

really though i wouldnt decide on a product just for loops and effects. both have really good effects and looping technologies. being mainly a vdj user, i would say go for vdj as its an all round software that covers all aspects of djaying.

now im only one person, but what you have to think about is your on the traktor forums asking the question of which to buy. 99.9% of people on here will say traktor. if you go over to the vdj forums 99.9% of people will say vdj.

as mentioned earlier try both before you buy and discover for yourself which you prefer. if everyone says traktor and you buy it and discover you dont ike it then you will blame everyone else for talkiing you into it.

the only person able to tell you which to buy is yourself. its your money so spend it how you please, but be sure to make the right choice "for you"

test each one for a couple of weeks and try out every feature the software has to offer. both have a free trial of the full pro version .

Well, it's not like you *have* to buy every releases of Traktor! New things are nice and sometimes glitchs are corrected but when your set-up works, there no obligation to upgraded every year.

if you have traktor 2, you can just download the current demo.
if we're talking about traktor 1, write to support, they'll send it to you.
