versatile studio monitors (krk?)

since I don't have the time or resources to try a ton of different setups, I hope that everyone here can throw in some opinions for my new sound system. I am in the market for studio monitors (subwoofer too maybe), $1000 is my ABSOLUTE maximum budget.

Here is the dilema, I like bass and I want to use my monitors for small "house" parties. My bedroom is medium sized 15' x 12' and I know I can get away with just 2 krk rokit 8s or 10s but my living area is a little bigger about 20' x 20' and I want to have noticeable bass in that room. I don't need to shake up the whole building but some thump would be nice. Should I consider getting 2 monitors and maybe a small sub (150W or less) or just buy bigger monitors like the rokit 10s (would the bass be adequate?). I like the KRKs and most people seem to like them too so I didn't look into other options but I have an open mind so bring on the suggestions.

It doesn't address my low frequency concerns but thank you though

If you're going to be using the speakers for monitoring and mixing your own songs, I would stay away from the KRK Rokkits. That said, they are decent hi-fi speakers for listening. If your main use of them would be as speakers at parties, they would be fine.

If you're looking for a small solution to your problem (ie. not buying a PA), then a pair of KRKs would do you fine, as long as you get a sub. Even the Rokkit 8s have a low frequency cutoff at around 44 Hz. If you got a subwoofer to cover the 20-60Hz range that'd really improve your low end response.

    Hope this helps :)
