    Hello,

I've just got Reaktor Session and i've encountered a slight problem when I load Ensembles I've downloaded from the User Library. Initially, it was with the majority of the ensembles I downloaded but then after I installed the patch to bring Sessions up to the latest version I don't get it as often. The error message is:

Error while reading file c:\progra....<ensemble name>.ens: This file was saved with a newer version of Reaktor! Please update your software!

I would maybe have expected this after Reaktor 5 had been out for a while and people had been uploading ensembles for this version. So, I'm now wondering if there is a problem with my installation.

    Examples of ensembles i've had this problem with: icepad.ens, meanmachine.ens, juno6.ens, koyaanisqastiv1.9.ens.

    any help appreciated.

No, there's nothing wrong with your installation. NI had started converting the R4 library to R5 without announcing anything- that's why they come up in the recently updated list. What I'd do is click on the link on each ensemble's page that says show other versions and try one of them...
    For more info, there's a thread in the Reaktor forum about it;

thanks for the feedback, it's a curious situation no doubt. i never really intended to use the user library all that much. maybe just once in a while to freshen my sounds up - but if this issue of files being converted continues i'll feel somewhat agrieved.

that said, i'm considering upgrading to full R5 anyway as the upgrade deal does look good value... i'd have preferred not to have felt my arm being twisted in this repsect.

the user library has some real gems, for me, often better than the "official" library ensembles.

we are all very angry that the library was being converted.
at the moment this seems to have stopped, maybe they will
    think again.

anyway, i would upgrade, as i feel the price for session users is a bargain. both reaktor 4 and 5 seem much more stable than session.

also, there will be no more session updates in the future.

    jeye_musik,
I have similar problem as you with the downloaded instruments.

I did not try yet, but "ewistrand"'s post should work - according to him. I will try his solution = using the other versions with my Session.

However, I would like to add a few words. This is my own experience.

It has taken me year(s) to understand that in making music the better approach is:
    use what I have
    instead of "beating up" myself.

Result? Published CD with lots of compliments.

Well, I have also downloaded the "updated" instrument versions during my 1st visit of the user library. None of them worked with my Session.

And, I sat down, and looked what I had: Reactor Session with its default ensembles. And I could make lots of useful synth sounds, by other words: I have **spent** my time tweaking the default ensembles, and came up with nice patches.

    trif.

OK, I have tried some/plenty of "other version"s of the synths from the user library, and all of them worked fine under Reactor Session.

To my surprice, most of the downloaded subtractive synths sound very similar to each other, especially listening to them without any effects (eventually with very litle effects), or in the context of mixes. Firtsly I listened to them with my top-notch headphones (AKG K1000 and Beyerdynamics) and lately on my monitors (Mackie).

    trif.
