    Hi there,

I've come up with a way to create vertical image maps from multiple images in about 2 mins with Photoshop using 'Actions'.

Works with any image sequence exported from After Effects, Max, C4D etc.

Made a screencast. Goes through the process of creating the action and explains about creating Alpha Maps for Targa files too in Photoshop.

Hopefully this should explain how to create maps really quickly if your on the Mac and don't have Knobman.

    Hope it helps somebody out!

wow that makes me glad I'm still on pc, normally if I export from a 3d app or any time I have to get a bunch of images into a strip I just run them into png strip convert them with xn view to tga and Im done, takes about less then 1min for an animation of 101 frames which is what I often use. Making me think twice about converting to mac.

For what you are doing Knobman is really of limited use. You can load single images and make an animation out of the but it not really the thing to use. Once you have the png strip you could use knobman to convert it to tga very quickly or resize your canvas area and add the drop shadow in really fast but that is about it. Knobman is most useful for making your knob and rendering out the animation to the format you need, very easy to use and very effective to getting it done quickly, but the knobs will not be as fancy as what can be done in psd or other, but that would also require time that knobman for the most part eliminates. Knobman is truely perfect for Reaktor as long as you can use it.

None the less, thanks for posting this. If by chance I find myself on a mac having to do this at least I'll have a method for it and not have to spend time thinking about it.

question about Cinima 4D which package is enough for gui stuff in reaktor or in other plugins? I was looking at before but was not really sure how the packages worked, I dont want what I dont need. I becoming convinced that luxology's Modo might be the winner for me, as seems to have a bit more documentation now, I have not seen any for Cinima 4D...education stuff is impoart to me as I am not efficient with 3D...yet.

    Hi Horuschild,
It doesn't take long once your in the swing of it! :)

It was more of me being curious to see if Photoshop could actually do this. Once you know the routine it really is pretty fast, compared to the alternative!...and will always give you a pro result! :)

As far as C4D goes it really is the best app to go for if your not a 3D whiz already. It's so easy to pick up, took me about two days to get up and running. Compared with the learning curve of other apps it is a breeze to use. The manual is really good as well.

There are plenty of great rescources out there too. A good start is the Maxon Youtube channel. Try these for a start. There's a lot out there for 3Ds Max too!

Package wise you could get away with building GUI stuff with just the basic app but I'd go with the Broardcast Edition as you get Mograph 2 which is invaluable.

    I've got C4D + Advanced Render + Mograph 2. Don't need anything else for 3d work!

Going to post up some of the ones I'm working on soon...ish....if I can find time.

    Here's the script.

It is designed to work with with image stacks.

Place the 'Vertical Strip From Stack.jsx' file into the folder Presets->Scripts in the Photoshop application folder.

Import your image sequence using the 'Load Files To Stack' script in File->Scripts.

Select the top layer of the stack in the layers panel, this should be the first frame numbered ?_0000.

Run 'Vertical Strip From Stack' from in File->Scripts.

    Bingo!

it works:D . Had to adjust the layer when done to match the other layers. I suppose this does not matter when doing to this with complete gfx. I used it only to bring an animation into an existing one. so it was not centered when the script is completed. not a big deal a few strikes on the arrow key and it was done.
