Is there really no way to control any of the basic functions via MIDI CCs? The single user-selectable CC (the mod wheel) doesn't work. Is there really no way to change patches, control filter frequency or resonance via anything other than the mouse?

Please tell me I'm missing something obvious.

You have to touch the mod wheel first before it works.

"Touch" the mod wheel? I'm sorry I don't understand.

And if it truly is only the mod wheel that is externally controllable then I don't know what to say.

What the heck were they (or "you" in this case, Eastwest as the instrument I'm talking about is VAPOR) thinking? Such crippled functionality is beyond explanation in today's market, IMO.

You have to touch the mod wheel first to activate it.

Everything is fully functional, you need to read the KOMPAKT manual so you know how the NI interface works.

"Fully functional"? I really don't understand.

There is no mention in the manual of configuring the KOMPAKT instrument to recognize MIDI CCs. The only other NI instrument that I've used directly is the Reaktor Session One that came with my subscription to FUTURE MUSIC. Within that instrument interface, you can left-click any control and select MIDI LEARN and off you go.

It's this kind of fucntionality I expected. Plus with no way to lock open the preset list, browsing the presets is very ineffecient.

VAPOR has some great sounds, but the UI functionality is lacking.

Setting keyboard (MIDI) knobs to controls

I agree that the documentation is lacking and functionality appears to not be there (I have Morphology) a-la Moog Modular V where you right-click I believe (not left as you mentioned) to have it *learn* so you can use your keyboard to twiddle the knobs to change stuff while recording in live. Morphology does have some great sounds as well but a) lacking documentation (what came with package and online) is really a stifler/bummer because I expected a lot more. I may get a different package if it meets these criteria.

Re: Setting keyboard (MIDI) knobs to controls

With most of these instrruments there is a manual for the Kompakt or Intakt software and the information about the specific library is in a pdf document or html document on screen if you scroll over the EW or ZG logos.

Figures it times out on me and I have to retype it in...anyways, what I have seen for the documentation isn't great as someone else mentioned. On top of that I get break up/cut out of brood drone under drones->dark and it does it on 2 different systems. A 1.33Ghz w/1Gb memory (PC133) and 2.0Ghz Athlon XP2700+ w/1Gb DDR PC2700 memory. I backed it down to Medium - High Memory and it still breaks up. Is this the engines problem or what? Systems have been defrag'd already and I have no other performance issues with other programs whatsoever.

The other big beef is this thing won't allow me to *learn* controls on my keyboard so I can do my knob twiddling on the keyboard. Once this thing is in as a VST plugin there is no way to tweak stuff (at least in Acid 4.0f) to adjust parameters live while recording. They also should have put a record option in directly a-la Absynth so I can record directly from it and then put the recordings into Acid and loop them there.

That's exactly my beef - no MIDI CC control of any parameter.

There is no KOMPAKT manual that came with VAPOR.

I'm also *extremely* annoyed by the NI registration process. Let met state that I will *never* buy another NI product again. I'm sure that doesn't break their hearts but I have had it with these heinous we-assume-you-WAREZ-our-product B.S.

How can it make any business sense for the Kompakt and Intakt libraries to not have any cc support? At least I researched this before I bought them. I was actually looking for bugs and problems, it never crossed my mind I wouldn't be able to control these from a controller. Absolutely unbelievable. I did a bit of research though and found an article in SOS.

    http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb05/articles/eastwest.htm

The article specifically states the following...

All the various controls can be assigned to a MIDI controller for real-time parameter tweaking by holding down the Control button (on the PC) or the Command button (on the Mac), and then clicking on and moving the required hardware controller. This worked fine within Cubase SX3.

Are they mistaken or can these be controlled by CC #s? This is the deciding factor before I purchase any of the libraries.

    So, I am confused.....
Is there midi CC support in any Kompakt Instrument?
Some people say "you must read the manual" ...
while others seem to relate, that they have read it, and there is no CC support.
    Which is it??

With no manuals on'line, these questions need definitive answeres here in the forum, by hands-on users, for prospective BUYER$.

I am away from home now (no internet there), but just installed OUTER LIMITS, and am doing an online registration....and did not realize that this may become an issue...I have the KInstrument manual next to me, and see nothing about MidiCC assigning. This may need a fresh topic??? Look for it.
