I just load a track into my Traktor Pro and i would expect a BPM between 138-140 but it says 69!

How the heck is this possible?

How does the Traktor software detects the BPM of a track, is that via ID3 tags or something?

    Anyway what to do now?

I solved it thanks to this video:

Traktor (any software really) doesn't always get it right. It will never have the same ear as a human for knowing how the tempo really goes.

Having said that it can be pretty close most of the time but get it half or double what it should be. Show your advanced panel under the deck and goto the grid section and you will see 2 buttons x2 and /2. Use these to quickly correct the detected tempo when it is half or double.

This question has been asked and answered a lot:

    - use the /2 x2 buttons
    - narrow the bpm detection range

Yes it has but nobody seems to want to take 'Search' out for a spin.

Thanks for the replies guys, and YES i did took a Search on Google and found several threads from the NI forums as well but i couldn't actually understand what it means.
Luckily i found the Youtube video and that actually shows how to do it.

So this seems to be solved for now.

Question to any Native Instruments technician:

I would like to know the technique that is been used to actually get the BPM from a track.
Can anyone of the NI Technicians (or programmers) explain this?
    Thanks in advance.

I can tell you that it doesn't use ID3 tags. Judging by the way it detects transients I would guess that it looks at the transients, tries to find ones that are uniformly spaced out and uses that to find the BPM. It may well be an iterative process.
