Looks like a great controller to use with Traktor..

My question.. Is it suitable to use with Traktor Scratch Duo?

    Thanks.

Yeah dont seem to be many peeps using them yet . User feedback is scarce.

When you say "My question.. Is it suitable to use with Traktor Scratch Duo?"
What exactly do you mean. The Vestax (any Vestax) will work perfectly well with Traktor as a Midi controller and it could be said that the TR1 is made for the job. As for the "scratch" part of things you already know theres no jog wheels.

There are certainly a LOT of knobs and buttons on the TR1 and its kinda aimed at 4 deck use isnt it..? It maybe a bit overkill for DUO which is only 2 decks.

    Just a thought

    Thanks Karlos..

Apologies, i understand there is no jog wheels and i wont be using time code..

A friend told me its really the 1st controller to be disigned with Traktor in mind, so it has all the midi mappings already done and ready to rock..

I know its maybe designed more for use with 'Pro' and 4 decks.. But my question is really 'will it work just as nicely with Duo'?

What other similar products would you recommend besides the TR 1 then?

Id say its the first controller with 4 deck use in mind. Any of the Vestax series will work fine.
If you want a definitive answer id say, yes it will work amazingly well with Duo.
The TR1 does come with a mapping for Traktor and 4 decks but most people end up re-mapping their controllers to suit their needs. I dont know how good the stock TR1 mapping is.

Other controllers? Well thats a whole other world that we can talk about forever.

First thing to do is work out how you use the software and imagine what you would need from a controller to do what you do. Then trawl the pages of Music Stores and read up on controllers.
Look at the Vestax range, the Allen & Heath, Faderfox. Check out the Stanton DaScratch if you want jog wheel style touch control.

It really is a huge thing choosing a Controller. One of the things you also need to know is what you DONT want from a controller, then you can eliminate certain models.

When it comes to choosing a controller you cant do too much research.
When you have an idea of what you want ask more questions on the forum and you will get some specific advice. Just narrow the choice down to a few models.

    Hope that helps

I'd rather want to know when it will be definitely available in stores in Europe. There was someone posting a picture of his setup in the picture thread, but the TR-1 doesn't seem to be out yet although August 2009 (as the projected release date) is almost over.

i think the 1 drawback to this controller is that the eq's aren't endless rotaries as it would be a bit of a pain if your skipping a lot between decks with loops and having to mess with the eq's to get them to the correct position but if they were endless it would be able to pick up the position depending on where they were on each deck.

They're heading in the right direction but i think it would need to be more of a cross between this and the vcm 600 as it would be better to have all the controls infront of you rather than having to keep switching decks

Did'nt quite follow you at first there but understand where your coming from now. Yeah the pick-ups would be all over the place. It would be bad enough with the faders but on the eq also, very messy.

The point of non-endless knobs is to see and feel their actual position without the computer. The endless encoder, even with LED ring doesn't provide you enough feedback, it misses tactile response, which, I think, is a must thing for performance controller.

For instance, I tend to use C&D decks only for loops and samples, so this controller integrates in my setup really well. Hope to check it soon.

And you could have soft pickup from Traktor itself, by the way.

i guess its half the problem when designing a general controller that your never going to make everyone happy as everyone has different needs

    soft pickup

    Hi all

I'm in mid jump from SSL to Traktor with a TR1 on order, so I'm sniffing around and trying to understand how it will work before it comes (could be a while!)

Anyhoo, can you knowledgeable lot explain the process of switching between the decks for me? I know it's discussed above, but as someone stated, when you switch between say deck A and C, the knobs and faders will still be set to deck A settings, so how exactly do you make this work i.e. if I want zero bass and loads of top on a sample and have it at half volume on the fader on deck C, how do I work it when I switch back to A and all the bass is out and the top high? And can someone explain soft pickup to me?

    Taa very much

Not as succinct as it could be, but...

At the top of the controller you'll note the toggle switches. If you make a change to the fader (for example) while on Channel A, the changes are made on Deck A. If you switch to Channel C and move the fader, the change is made to Deck C.

Soft pickup refers to a gentle change rather than immediate jump. Let's say you're playing Channel A with the level up to full volume, and Channel C is at 0. If you switch to Channel C and bring the fader down WITHOUT soft pickup enabled, you'll have the volume jump to max and then brought down as you drop the fader.

Soft pickup will allow you to change to Channel C, bring down the fader to its current setting (0) and then you will have to bring the fader up once it hits that point in order for the deck to be heard.

Aha I see. Thanks for the explaination.

For those that have used soft takeover, have you found it a reliable function?
