Hey Guys, thanks for the very interesting thread. There are 2 different ways to solve this problem without question.

I have been reviewing this unit for a magazine and spent hours figuring out exactly what is to blame for this problem.

Bottom line- it is the way the Vestax unit sends out Scratch off information. This can be corrected in many ways, here are 2 you can try yourself.

One way- use a midi convertor to convert CC data #18 with velocity above 82 into c4 note off information.

translated- when you throw the wheel forward hard enough it dis-engages scratch mode and does not wait for the wheel to stop. In my opinion this is a janky fix but it will work.

    Real solution-
I have to agree with the physical wheel modification. That is the real problem here. Want to easilly prove it? remove the wheel and scratch with the sensor alone. There is NO ramp up. I am able to cue perfectly in time. This is a physical design flaw in my opinion.

How is the VCI for mixing? I'd like to buy one but to me it seems that the short pitch faders along with the low resolution midi would make it difficult to perform long mixes.

    Hey Ean_Golden,

thanks for your post. Is there a .tks Midi setting for this work-around? Or how do I convert "CC data #18 with velocity above 82 into c4 note"?

    Thanks!

earlier in the thread i have found this question that bugged me too:
    solution:
in the vestax standard .tks the configuration for the cue/play button of the vci-100 is cue/play instant.
changing cue/play instant to cue/play results in exactely what i wanted.

this results in a minor bug. there is a little delay if you are configuring the cue/play button in the way i have described, when pressing it during normal playback, because the function is executed during the release of the button not during press, so you have to press it very quickly.
an other workaround would be to sacrifice an other button of the unit and reassign it with the cue/play function, so that the cue/play instant is still working correct.

    cheers

    hey folks,
i'm looking to buy a controller to use with Traktor 3. My final choices are either the Vestax VCI 100 or the Behringer 3000.

I use a Powerbook G4 1.67Ghz, and I already have Final Scratch2 that I can use as a soundcard (damn i wish the VCI 100 came with a headphone socket so i didn't need to use a soundcard). Does anyone have any current recommendations as to which one would work better with this setup, the Vestax or Behringer?

I just received a PDF in my email from a new buyer of the VCI-100 who has stated he has the new firmware in his unit. So they have started to hit the retail market but still no news on what the upgrade path is to get our old units working.

Not only does it allow for 2 VCIs to be used for 4 deck control, but apparently fixes the ramp up and the scratching problem. As well as a setting to disable the touch platters alltogether.

Itching to get my firmware upgraded...

    Turning off Touch platter mid-song?

I dont do much scratching so the ramp up problem is not a huge deal for me. What bothers me about the VCI is how close the wheels are to the other controls. I find myself VERY easily accidentally touching one of the platters causing the track to skip or worse case: a mix to crash.

Is there a way to retain the track seeking function of the platters but turn off the "yeeeeurp" skip every time you touch one?

    THANKS

So I've called 2 service centers in my area of South Florida (of 3 in the whole state), neither of them had any clue about this firmware update from vestax.

I have one center calling vestax today to see about ordering the firmware update cables... i don't see this happening very soon for me...

since new updated units are now shipping out, i wonder if they have hit the local guitar center yet... i'm tempted to buy a new one and sell my old one on tha bay if i can't get the firmware soon enough...

id suggest finding the section in the tks file config that refers to whatever command that is and disable it... should be very simple...

Hi everybody! Gotta couple of questions:

Is this VCI-100 significantly better then Behringer BCD2000 (I own one and kinda thinking about upgrade). Does it work fine with traktor?

What soundcards do you guys use with it? What are the best options?

    Thanx!

PS. One more thing - how is it compared to Torq XPonent?

both the products you mentionhave an in-built soundinterface. The Behringer is pretty low quality whereas the X-ponenet although it looks crappy is actully a pretty efficient product and can compare to the VCI as far as MIDI control capapbilities.

the VCI is good because :

    - you can couple it too a much higher quality sound interface than the xponenet inbuilt interface
    - It's has the best digital jog wheels on the market.
    - the build is much more high end. it looks and feels professional compared to the 2 other you mention.

I called djdeals to order vci-100. They said they just got a fresh shipment of vci's in. They did not now what I was talking about when I said new firmware. They said its version 1.2 on the box. Does this mean its the updated firmware?

    Hi Guys and girls,

Sorry I'm a newbie to all this. I just bought my new VCI-100 and plugged it to my Mac/Traktor. I set all preferences to the Vestax, but its not controlling anything it should be.
Does the Vestax come pre set up to control everything, of do I have to do it all manually in the 'learn' feature?
