when I sample vinyl, it's a lot quieter than when I play stuff from my computer. not only that but when I look at the wave thing I notice the amplitudes are a lot shorter (when editing samples in maschine) than if I import a wav sample. very odd and I'm not sure if it's a setting with my turntable (numark USB) or interface (duet) or maschine settings.

You can Normalize your samples to bring the volume up.

ideally, increase the input gain while recording from vinyl (max without clips) first ... then normalize or run though a soft limiter with gain make up ...

Are you using a phono preamp? Because that might be the problem...

I'm sorry if this comes off the wrong way, it's really obvious but it sounds like that's the problem

Been having the same problems with the NUMARK USB turntable. Do you have the portable one or the regular size one? I have a the PT-01 USB. I'm thinking I'm going to modify it and create an external ground for it within the next month.

I made this mistake the first time I sampled from vinyl. Most cats don't know that the signal coming from a turntable is incredibly quiet, thats why on the backs of stereos/amps theres a phono input and a line input.

Yeah. I have an Audio8 that I use when I DJ with Traktor. It has a +6db ground lift for Phono inputs. I also route the Audio in through my DJ mixer and check the levels there before it hits Maschine.

Normalizing is an awful habit to get into.

Well...that depends on how compressed your other sounds and samples are. If the Wave of the Vinyl-Sample shows the full Spektrum (Peaks hit the top) it's great cause it has the full dynamic range and sounds the best. If you "normalize" the sample or compress and limit it too hard it looses sound quality. It might be as loud as your other samples then but better try to lower the volume on the others. Try to give your music some dynamic.
