    Hi Guys,

If you have been reading any of my recent thread, yo might be seeing a trend...Yes, I am creating a virtual controller/midibox (More like table)/turntable...everything basically. Soon I hope to post about it (Once my exams are over ;) ) So I just created an idea for a virtual Turntable. It uses the reactable frame work (find out 1, find out 2). So here is a png on how I want it to work. All reviews are welcome, as well as suggestions:

    thanks

    Hi mohit,

Cool idea - took me a bit to fully understand it.

Do I get it right that the two CD's (full, respectively half-cut) with their fiducials will both be seen by some visual equipment (camera...) related to reactable? Won't you have a problem with the two fiducials being in different distances to the camera's focus? Maybe I should read more about how the reactable works...

The main question I'd have is how such a realitively simple setup would hold up to real use. The whole question of bearings and friction of the axes is not touched and will make all the difference for the handling I'd think...

Anyways, I really like such projects, so keep us updated!

    Cheers, h00la

Yes (Using a webcam) and yes both will be seen

No, there will be no such problem when using reactable as it just looks for the fiducials and not proximity unless I want it to.

Sorry, but I don't really understand exactly what it is that you are pointing out to maybe since I have never used a real Turntable (OMG!)

So do I and I will keep you updated

Well, I just had the feeling that sth built out of a CD-case will be pretty light. If you have platters to replace either CDJs or turntables you want to make sure that they don't move when you handle them (also when doing it quickly). And you want them to move evenly and with a constant resistance to being pushed, therefore my question about bearings.

Maybe it would make sense to look for sth that already has bearings that could be adjusted? Like an old HD or CD-player or ventilation fan you can cut open? Just wondering...

    Good luck, h00la

    sorry but what is sth

An as goes for movement, CD Cases have three flats coming out as locks they are used to screw it to a wooden plank (Not too heavy). The plank can have more screws to a permanent (semi-permanent) setup or use those things iyou find on the underneath of webcams to keep then in place. And as goes for even resistence I am using a rainy sand paper to scratch the CD case to provide some resistence with the CD.

Really it is no that bad.

Tnkas for the quaries, keep 'em comin (Or i'll be bored)

    lol

    sth = "something" :D

Really, I was just voicing my first concerns... Just that I can't imagine something of course doesn't mean anything ...

Now we don't want that, do we ? :D

    Cheers, h00la

i was wondering the other day why some one hasn't come up with something like this yet. what would be cool is that if you are anyone else could make it as sensitive and responsive as the jog wheel on an ipod

    thx kaaos.

With this idea it can be made as sensitive as anything, all you need is a powerful Pc and a really good webcam that is fast and high resolution this will allow the data to be interpreted quickly.

It is funny you mention Ipod because the other day a friend of mine created an Ipod Enlargement with a small LCD screen, Flash and this reactable (Can communicate with flash using code).

By the way I am redesigning the VTT as it is messy and not as good as I want it to be. So as soon as I figure something out, i'll update the posts.
