The vokator instrument plug was suppost to work in the next update to logic 6.2. Well it doesn't. Could perhaps one of the moderators tell us what's up. Is there a fix coming?

I opened a ticket with tech support.

    Problems:

    * Now the FX plugin gets the audio from the track (still insists on being on a mono track though, which sucks.) but does NOT get the sidechain audio.

    * The Instrument does not even have a sidechain menu.

I think that using sidechains for Vokator AU is stupid as only Logic has them. DSP-Quattro, RAX, Spark and the other AU hosts do not have sidechaining. I actually prefer the way the VST works and would like to have that functionality as an AU.

    Oh well.

here is the tech support reply:

    * I use it on a mono track (otherwise it doesn\'t show up.)

    1. this is the only type of channel it will appear on since it can only process or receive a mono audio input on either input A or B. both inputs are mono. However, the final output of the Vokator can be in stereo. So if you want stereo output, then choose the mono->stereo category and you will see the Vokator listed there.

    * It now gets the audio from the track I\'m on as Input A, which didn\'t happen before.

    2. yes, this is the normal way it should work when processing an existing audio track in your project

    * The sidechain doesn\'t work: no audio comes into Input B, even if I also make that track mono

    3. i\'ve reproduced this and reported it to our developers

    * As an INSTRUMENT there is NO sidechain menu to use. It just doesn\'t appear.

    4. I noticed this as well. It is possible that side-chaining is not supported in the instrument and the reference to \"instrument\" in the readme file was a mis-type. Im checking into this now.

I understand your frustration since the NI rep informed you incorrectly. AU was still under devlopment during the release of Vokator and this was explained on the boxes with a footnote.

I appreciate your patience so far in this and hopefully we will get it working soon enough.

    cheers, omar

No inidcation of how low we'll be waiting.

    Hello,

it is a bit confusing to work with Logic and AU instruments with Side chain. The trick is to plug-in in the instrument object the instrumetn Vokator into the FX slot of this instrumetn object. Then there is the side chain selection. And MIDI gets into it also. Please refer to the readme of the AU update of Vokator.

Make sure to use Logic 6.2. Prior version will not pass through audio into side chain inputs of AUs at all. Emagic promised to fix this with 6.2 - we found that it is now working with Logic 6.2 on the left channel of the side chain input. The right channel side chain input is still dead. Emagic has been informed about this.

I have no desire to use the instrument in Vokator: I just want to be able to process two audio streams. In OS9 I use the Vokaotr FX plugin on a bus. I then send one signal harpanned left and one right to that bus. I only want to vocode signals against each other. And I cannot. After all this time.

Can you please code an interim version that will do this? It is infuriating that after all this time I still cannot use Vokator in this way.

    Hello,

once Emagic has fixed the sidechain input everything will work as it should.

There will be an audio input via side chain and MIDI input possibility also. I would like to say this again: You would not have MIDI input with the FX plug in Logic. That is why we regard the fx plug-in useless for Vokator - with Logic.

However, we will consider to enable the FX option of the AU with the next update if Emagic still has not fixed the Sidechain issue then. But Emagic promised us to fix this with a minor release of Logic.
