    Hi all,

I have just bought Vokator and am trying to use it in Sonar. I have installed it and have the DX synth visible in the soft synth menu under NI (along with East West Symphony Orchestra), and under VST the VokatorVST_SY. In the Audio FX bin I can add Vokator as a VokatorVST_FX, but that's all no direct X. I want to use an audio input (pre-recorded) and a MIDI input and run that through Vokator. Then edit the MIDI till I achieve the required results.
In the instruction manual it recommends not using the Synth rack as this will disable audio input for vokator. It also says to route an audio track to and Aux. Bus, and add vokator there, then set up a MIDI track to have the output set to Vokator.
This is a contradiction, adding a DXi synth allows you to set up a MIDI track to control it but not route audio to it, and adding a VST effect (no DX effect available) allows you to use audio but not MIDI.
I realise this is probably something I could sort out with ten hours or so of searching on the internet but I have deadlines to meet and this is not the only piece of new equipment that I can’t get to work in the way the manual describes.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ryland

    Ok,

So it seems when they say not to use the synth rack, but to use an audio channel, they mean to use an Aux. Bus then add the synth in the FX bin. This allows for audio playback through the channel with Vokator in. The MIDI symbol also flashes but apart from that the sound remains largely unchanged. Also the pre-sets that are available in the standalone version are now gone inside sonar.
How do I now use the plug-in as a vocoder. I will work the rest out later but this track needs some daft punk style over processed vocoding by the end of the week!

    Thanks
    Ryland

    Fine,

So I have presets now, but they don't appear to alter the sound in any way. The MIDI input just makes the symbol flash in vokator. All I want is for vokator to act like a vocoder and alter the pitch of incoming sounds, the rest will be easy as i know sonar like the back of my hand.

Please Help this is driving me mad.

You don't realize you can add a DX synth as an effect on ANY audio track and that it doesn't have to be an aux bus. You also don't realize that you can configure Vokator_FX as a synth in the adapter properties, thereby allowing audio input AND MIDI control. Yet, you know Sonar like the back of your hand?

Insert Vokator_FX as an effect on your audio track. Route a MIDI track to it. Choose A*B or B*A for your mode in Vokator's GUI. If you're using the wave synth in Vokator, make sure you have a sample loaded into the oscillator. Now, play the controller assigned to Vokator's MIDI track.

And yes, it works that way. I just processed a vocal track that way in Sonar 6 while typing this answer.

Yes I do, but if somethings not working and you follow the intructions to the T, then perhaps you can identify the problem

Yes I do, but since none of the other plugins I use require me to change their adapter properties so It's not the first thing that jumps to mind. Besides I can only select between load as a synth or load as an effect. If you change the effect to a synth it just means you have two synths

Yes I think using Sonar since I upgraded from Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 definately counts.

This had no effect. I cannot load the presets from the main window, I have to navigate through my C: drive each time.

Again, don't need the sarcasm but thanks anyway as I have now sorted it

Your presets AREN'T going to show up in Sonar's dropdown or in any other host's, because of Vokator's preset management scheme.

Vokator as a plugin in Sonar 6

I have tried using Vokator as a Synth plugin in the FX bin of the audio track setting up midi track normally. I hear only vocal mic output with distortion. I am trying to get computer talk 1 B output only to no avail any step by step help.
    Please.

    Thanks,
    Phil

    Welcome =)

    ?

I'm not getting what you want here. If you're using it as a vocoder, you'll want to use tha A*B or B*A choices.

The VST version works much better in Sonar. Go to the plugin manager or adapter (depending on your version; they're essentially the same thing) and bring up the properties for Vokator_FX. Check the enable as synth box. Now, insert the Vokator_FX plugin as an effect on your audio track. Have a MIDI track going to Volator_FX. Play your controller or draw notes in the piano roll of that track.

Thanks for the info. I was trying to go for a B*A and with Sonar I had a problem of it working intermittently. It eventually did work.
