I am not a professional musician, just use Cubase system 2 for personal joy. I wanted to experience the potentials of Vokator and purchased it recently including it as a VST plug-in effect into Cubase SE. I wanted to start trying a very simple performance. I recorded an audio track (vocals) and wanted to listen the result applying the Vokator preset effects.
Unfortunately when the effect is switched on, no sound is heared. As soon as I deactivate the effect, I can hear the recorded sound but, of course, with no Vokator effect.
Could you please let me know where is the secret since I could not find any help from the manual.
Thank you in advance and best regards.
    Astor

    Hello,

remember, a vocoder is a "multiplier", so there are two signals "muliplied" by each other. If one of them is zero, e.g. the internal synthesizer in Vokator is not playing, the result of this multipliction will be zero always, so nothing can be heard.

Also make sure that the inputs are set correctly in Vokator, either input 1 or 2 should be set to "live in", which means external audio gets into the vocoding engine rather than the "tape" or "osc synth" or "sampler".

    VOKATOR - Vokator -

    Dear Mr. Sippel,

I thank you very much for your immediate answer.

I followed your instructions and set the A and B inputs to "live" and there
actually occurred some vocoded sound but there was no sensible difference
between one preset and the other.

Then I understood that probably preset sounds are to be obtained setting the
B input as Osc Synth and I switched it on. On the virtual keyboard I could
play the "mix" between A input set to" live" and B set to Osc Synthesizer
having the possibility to tune the singed file using the virtual keyboard.

I am very happy that I discovered some of the Vokator performances during
this afternoon but there is another question I must ask to you. How can I
set up the MIDI data exchange in order to play the Osc Synthesizer from my
external MIDI keyboard instead of pushing the keys on the virtual keyboard
on the Vokator using the mouse.

I read the instructions but anything I do, Vokator does not accept the MIDI
signals from my external keyboard. (Cubase SE shows that the MIDI signal is
    active IN and OUT).

Do not be angry on me if I will have to annoy you in future with further
    questions.

Thank you in advance and best regards

    Damir Kolakovic

    Hello,

I am unsure if you are using Vokator as standalone or as plug-in, but it looks rather like plug-in. In this case, after you have plugged in the Vokator plug-in you must assign a midi track to Vokator. Thats probably clear, but the most common mistake then is that the MIDI channel of the track does not match the midi channel settings in Vokator. These are set to channel 1 by default for all sections of Vokator. Check the Vokator options for the current settings.
