    Hi!
Curious if anyone has tried to import Voices of the Apocalypse yet?

If so- did it go well, or not?

Is there anything that comes close to the features and quality of VOTA?

I heard they are doing a port to Kontakt, or possibly a package including Kompakt (as many are doing now), but that wont be until later (much later?) this year. Cant wait that long! ;)

    Thx!

    VOTA in Kontakt

    Hi

I'm just starting to us VOTA at the moment.
I'm using cdXtract for the conversion as the kontakt conversion tools need a little more work.
With cdXtract, the conversion is sort-of-working. It is able to divide the dimensions into to groups properly, but Kontakt works slightly differently to Giga.
Vota assigns soft versions and full-on versions of say ARH's, and uses the mod wheel to crossfade between them, this works as intended.
It also uses C_1 and C#1 to switch between different attacks. This does not work as intended, but might be considered irrelevant anyway. The giga version is merely a 10ms difference on the attack time. This could be assigned to a controller (cc - env attack) in Kontakt, which would be much more desirable anyway.

Also.... if cc / automation values could have min and max (variable) values set (and scaled) this would be perfect, and much better than the giga version. E.G. cc val 0 = 0ms attack, cc val 127 = 100ms, and use the controller to scale between these. (It’s presently set from 0 to 15 seconds, useable, but not as useful as it could easily be).
I feel that this is an area that Kontakt could really take advantage of, it just needs implementing! N.I.?

As far as VOTA goes, it is sometimes desirable to soften the attack of the syllables, and the above recommendation could improve upon the present performance of the existing Giga version.

The consonants work as intended, and the key dimensions are able to choose between the 4 available versions.
    Release layers work as intended.
All oo-ee, ih-eh type performances, that use the mod-wheel to crossfade between the two syllable variations work as intended.
The Angels work as intended, with the exception that with 2 performances, the filter setting needs adjustment.

    Performance tools.
These are basically cleverly conceived ways of bypassing the fact that Giga-studio is presently an unsupported application, at least by its present owners.
VOTA is about trying to re-create a choir singing by clever use of syllables. It should require about 20 midi channels but the performance tools reduce the necessary midi channels down to 6.
To get the choir to sing as intended requires the user to get really involved, but the results are definitely worth the required amount of concentration. I would suggest that using as many midi channels as possible to keep on top of everything might perhaps be easier than trying to work with just 6.

So VOTA is able to work in Kontakt with cdXtract for the conversion.
It does occasionally require a little reassigning and tidying but on the whole the performances work well.
The performance tools are obviously intended to work with Giga-studio, but I personally wouldn’t use these as intended anyway.
The advantages of being able to use VOTA from within a host sequencer, and the almost instantaneous loading times far outweigh any Giga specific features.

As for the quality of the library, it’s very good.

    Dave.
