VST-Host for mac

I have a question to all macusers.
i use a g4 / 400 and wanna use reaktor as a vst plugin. all host applications i tried (Logic and Cubase) will not work correctly with reaktor. Cubase stops sounds every 5 seconds and Logic messes up the midi timing, when reaktor is used as plugin.
does anybody know how to solve this problem? or is there any cheap and slim VST host that can handle this?
of course for mac.
right know i use two computers. one old one (performer 630, haha!!!) for midi only and my g4 for reaktor only . but i wanna use reaktor combineed with other vst plug ins.
or do i have to wait for reaktor 3.3???

Yeah this is the biggest problem reaktor has... it just doesn't work properly as a VST.. automation doesn't work properly.. sequenced synths clock only occasionally works properly..

i just hope version 3.3 (or 4.0 or whatever) is a free upgrade, works in osx (ie audio unit).. and fixes all these problems..

I use Reaktor (3.07.008?, latest one..)with Cubase VST 5 and it works just fine, thats with a iMac 400Mhz G3, 528MB Ram, OS 9.2...my only problem is I have to normally run Reaktor at Voices=1, Sample Rate 22050-44100(maximum!). You shouldnt really have a problem with your G4 400MHz...cant remember if you mentioned memory...if you've only got 256 MB Ram, upgrade to 528 MB mimimum. Other than this, may have to fiddle about a bit to optimize your audio settings, thats all I can think of really, hope it helps...

usng logic 5.5

Can use reaktor 3.3 as vst with logic 5.5 I have a G4 533, OS9. tCertain modules will not synch correctly, but I just bounce those to disk. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next reaktor upgrade.

I'm on a G4 800mhz dual and Logic Audio Platinum (Version 5.3 or 5.4... for OS 9 /Can"t remember which exactly but not 5.5 yet)

Reaktor works more or less fine (not in dual mode though) as a VST instrument. (I even managed to run a few synths on different midi channels...)
However I have encountered a few problems...

Automation via midi controllers - didn't seem to work ...(I tried for an hour through various controller numbers) And it seems like reaktor wasn't receiving the controller info...

Automation via midi notes -did seem to work

I actually tried this on a "scratcher instrument from the essentials collection" hoping to do some scratching with my emagic hardware controller..... I was only able to start or stop the sample with midi notes..

Maybe I missed something in the manual...
Maybe it has to do with the vst implementation..

I've tried some sequencers in reaktor with logic running and I've had some inconsistancies... But I need to check more on that..
As soon as I've had time to install Logic 5.5 I'll try again...

 

Actually what I said in my previous post seems to be wrong.
First : I'm on LA 5.2
Second : I've done more tests...

And the problems I had must've been caused by a corrupted session.

I can now automate any knobs in reaktor with logic...and on any required midi channel.
Either through hyperdraw or through logic automation..
But not on every midi controller number..

 

How are you automating with 'track automation'? When i look in the available controllers for the instrument, i only get 'C62, C63' in the reaktor sub menu.. these don't work for me..

Could some one explain the process they are using to get automation...

 

Are you sure it's 62 & 63?
On my version it's cc64 &cc 65..
It doesn't matter anyway cause I can't even get anything to automate through 64 & 65.
I don't know why.
However, believe me there is a way.. there is light and satisfaction..
If you read my earlier post in this thread you can get details on how I connect a midi 'multi-instrument' to an audio instrument. This provides me with a way of sending midi notes and controllers to reaktor on separate channels. All my playing & programing is actually done on the tracks (instances) of this multi instrument - in the arrange window. (Not on the reaktor track)
On these tracks you can very easily edit midi controllers via 'version 5 automation' (or earlier hyperdraw)

In other words : I simply get Logic to believe I'm playing on a traditional midi multi-instrument. But instead of feeding the midi messages to an external midi interface (that's why I have it's port set to "off"), I have logic sending the data to the reaktor "VST" audio instrument (via the environnement).
Obviously, if you don't need multi-channels I suppose it would also work with a classic single channel midi instrument.
You can even create midi controller faders in the environnement and connect them to the reaktor instrument. It works

This said, I also noted the following : If you create an empty sequence on the reaktor vst track, and do some hyperdrawing in the sequence on the midi controller number you want to automate, it'll work (or even in matrix edit). After that you can convert hyper draw data to automation data. And at that point your reaktor vst track automation will actually allow you to view and edit the controllers which you couldn't access before (those in which you did at least one edit point in hyperdraw).

Pfiew... I wanted to be short but I failed.
You should check logic manual for more on environnement, automation, Hyperdraw etc.


Hope this helps. It works with my configuration..
But there are different platforms and versions of these programs so you're never sure...
