It´s the only thing I really miss. Revalver III has it, and you can run GR as a plugin in Revalver... :)

Yes. Revalver is quite impressive, especially for tube head purists who want to custom tweak the components "under the hood". I think the combination of the 2 is scary good, although I think that Guitar Rig 3 is a more comprehensive package in terms of flexibility and usability. Revalver does seem to get a lot of praise for tonal purity and flexibility of the amp models.

Is this confirmed? The reason I ask is that in the Guitarplayer magazine review thay couldn't make it happen. Smaller/simpler VSTs worked fine though, so there seem(ed) to be a size factor.
Personally I wouldn't mind this capability at all, but if you require this now it isn't too difficult to run GR as a plugin in a VST host (sequencer/DAW) and chain it up with any other VST plugin there. You can even run GR - other VST - GR if you like, already. Free VST hosts are available, and some are even light on the CPU.

This quote from a review of Revalver MKIII in Premier Guitar (Sept 2008) authored by Roger Adler:

"Another great feature is called the VST Module, which allows you to insert any VST plug-in as an effect into your rack, greatly expanding ReValver’s possibilties. Considering the plethora of VST plug-ins out there, this capability gives you yet another way to create the sound you’re looking for. Fortunately, this software works seamlessly with today’s powerful laptops and is both Mac and Windows compatible. I had mine running smoothly through a MacBook Pro with various MAudio audio interfaces."

The whole review of Revalver MKIII is at this link:

Thanks for the link, but it still doesn't confirm that you can actually run GuitarRig inside Revalver. Stating that you can run "any VST" is one thing, testing how it actually works is another. On a side note this is where reviews in Guitarplayer magazine often are different form other's: they don't take claims like these for granted, they try it out (they generally do anyway). They had problems running a really huge VST like GuitarRig inside Revalver, while smaller ones wasn't a problem. This might have been fixed now for all that I know. I'm just asking.

Nevertheless Revalver really looks interesting (although we shouldn't praise a competing product here, should we ;) ) - something for the tweak-a-holic.

rjong999, any problems with the Rig Kontrol pedal controlling Guitar Rig 3 functions as a VST plug-in in Revalver? Or does it all "run like a breeze"? Any Revalver setting tweaks, or is it really very simple and seamless?

Sorry, I don't use RK, I use an FCB1010. I have not tweaked any settings in Revalver, just added the VST-module and loaded GR3 as a VST. It works seamless.

I do not understand why the size of the VST should have any impact on the way it is operating. The VST protocol is fairly easy to implement, and the size of the DLL is not a parameter. As long as you have memory space to load the DLL, it will run. It is a misconception to think that GR3 runs 'inside' Revalver, GR3 will run the same way with any VST host: the DLL is loaded into memory and control is transferred to it.

cool. What are you using for an your audio in-out/MIDI interface?

I also own the FCB1010 in addition to the Rig Kontrol, and I'm trying to decide if using the FCB is a better choice for me for live use. I'd prefer to not have to carry 2 pedals (Kontrol + FCB) right now.

Since there is currently a known bug that won't allow me to use either of the Kontrol's external expression pedals as continuous controllers (and I'm too impatient to wait for the bug fix in v3.2), I'd like to explore the use the FCB since it gives me 2 expression pedals right out of the gate.

I use a Line6 toneport GX. It works fine. The biggest issue I have with my setup is the (unaccaptable) high noise level when using hi gain patches.

I'm assuming that you find the hiss noise distracting when you're in a high gain patch but not playing? It's OK when you're playing, right? If not, then that's a whole different ball game.

Trust me, I'm no fan of noise reduction or noise gates, but I've found that if you locate either NR or a Gate in a spot in the effects chain (probably right after the offending hi gain amp head) you can get a very usable noise reduction that will be extremely responsive and ultra fast. BUT, what I recommend is that you use the INPUT LEVEL MDF Modifier (4.15.6 in the manual) assigned to the THRESHOLD of the noise gate or NR that is inserted in the signal chain. You may need to tweak the VOLUME/OFFSET/ATTACK/DECAY parameters of the Input Level Modifier in order to get it to track appropriately. Also, you will want to set the Noise Gate/NR threshold INITIAL SETTING appropriately so that when you are not playing, the offending noise shuts down.

The result of this should be that as you play your instrument, the MDF modifier will automatically open and shut the threshold of the gate in accordance with input level. You should see the threshold knob moving back and forth as you play.

This is much more desirable than a gate which has a static "set and forget" threshold. Give it a try...I hope I made this clear and perhaps it helps.

What about a real noise reduction pedal in front of the audio interface? Anyone tried that?

Tried it, did not like it at all.
My idea is that the interface I am using (Line6 GX) is just too noisy. Since this interface is supposed to have the best S/N ratio in the market, I think we may have to look for another solution.
I am currently experimenting with quite some success with adding a real overdrive/distortion in fromt of GR. The effect would be that the first gain stage is before the interface, and the input into that interface is considerably higher, so that I can keep the gain and the noise level in GR a lot lower.
I am trying this at home and it seems to work quite well, so I'll take it to the practice tomorrow and see how it hold with a lot more volume.
The best combination I am running right now is a full drive 2 in fromt of the tone port, it gives a very clear, strong distorted sound, which you can make really fat with the mesa emulation without adding unreasonable amounts of noise. Also, the sound is more natural, compared to a setup where my guitar is sent directly through the GX into GR3.
If things work out, I'll post a sample later.

Noise reductione pedal NOGO you say!
I am also using the toneport gx and i really want to find a way to reduce the noise to an acceptable amount. I have a hunch that my cheap pickups might be the source of some of the noise, so i decided to try and replace the bridge pickup with a better one ( seymour duncan ). Hope it makes a difference!

I would not count on it. Better shielding might help, and of course active pickups would kill most of the noise. I have a flying V with emg 81+85 but I'm not so keen on the sound, I like the passive pickups in my les pauls a lot better.

I have tried a setup with the fulltone full drive 2 in front of the GX, that works fine also at higher volume levels. STill have to do a lot of tweaking but I finallly seem to be getting somewhere
