Is there anyway to get Reaktor to read-ahead in an audio stream while it's running as a VST plugin? I highly doubt it, and I'm probably going to have to fudge my sequenced 'shuffle' effect a bit (read previous bar/halfbar instead of the upcoming one). Is this even possible in the VST spec?

Or is it something ridiculously simple like just delaying any output from my effect by the length I need to readahead? I don't really like that option, you see.

That's the way I would do it. It depends on what source you've got. If it's an fx plugin, like a compressor, there's no other way as you couldn't read ahead an incoming (live) signal. If the audio stream stems from a table, you might use a copy of that and alter the read position, although this also would require a delay in the signal. If the signal is generated via oscillators and MIDI, again that's the same situation as with the live audio, however you could negatively delay the recorded MIDI notes thus compensating for the delay.

The VST spec does allow for readahead, but I think it's primarily intended for use in offline mastering effects, and possibly only supported by Nuendo. I would be surprised if Reaktor supported it.
