Yeah there is versiontracker.com but I'm interested in what your favorite WAV /AIF editor is for OSX. I use Sound Forge 8.0 on XP and will continue to use it until I find something better that run on OSX. I did try the Peak Demos but holy crap if you cannot find a way to allow me try your software unencumbered for 7 or 14 days without stupid 1 or 5 minute limits on recording or saving don't friggin bother! Besides which, you require a friggin hardware key? GTF Out! There are likely other better solutions out there so what is yours?

yeahh phil, dont get your hopes up.....i'm coming from the same scenario, i loved using sound forge and i dont believe there's anything out there better. but that's the only good thing i have to say about pc........

as of now i'm not aware of any 2 track editors for osx which are worth $1....
so i'm using free software, audacity.
i think it works pretty well and considering it being open source it's a
    good choice.

It's no longer available unfortunately. but I use a free legal download I got a couple of years ago of "Spark ME" from TC Works.

It's fine for just top & tailing vinyl rips. But if I want to do anything a bit more serious, I drag out my old PC lappy & fire up CoolEdit Pro. (probably the only reason I've hung on to my PC)

I've also got CoolEdit on my desktop machine at work, so if something can wait till the next morning, I normally just take it in to the office.

On a related note, I've just recently discovered how fantastically useful the optical in & out is on my Powerbook.

If I want to get audio out of my desk at work (I work in radio by the way), all I need to do is find a dat machine or CD recorder that has consumer level optical connections as well as the pro standard AES/EBU digital connections.

Just stick the dat/CD machine to record from my desk, then take an optical feed as well to my powerbook.

    Sorted!! :)

You may have been looking at the BIAS site before they shaped up their customer relations ...

I used the previous Peak LE free trial (before the UB came out) and it had no limitations (other than a nag window when saving). I was waiting for the UB so I will be trying that out next.

I also tested out SoundForge 8 and realistically, I could use either one as they seemed very similar to me.

However, as I prefer to stick to OS X as much as I can, I will be purchasing Peak Pro sometime in the near future.

One of the Toast packages comes bundled with PeakLE.
Quattro is great value for a CD mastering/editing program.

i'm still using Logic 6.4 Pro, years after I first bought it (and through many upgrades). It's doing the job nicely! I would agree that if you want decent software for recording purposes then you should buy it!

Actually, we just upgraded to Final Cut Express HD at the office which comes with SoundTrack 1.5 bundled. I haven't had time to get into it fully yet but I suspect that it will become my new defacto audio editor ...
