Ok so I am mad and stumped. Before today I had been using 320 kbps downloads from beatport. I decided to switch to Wav. downloads from beatport. My problem is when I put it into Traktor It just shows the track that is it no artist, key, or anything else other then BPM. Does anyone else here use wav. files? There has to be a way to fix this to come up like all my old MP3s do.

This has been discussed previously, I suggest you do a few google searches of the form:
    Code:
    my search terms site:www.native-instruments.com/forum

Let me also give you my 2c on the topic:

There are several downsides to WAV, including the lack of a universally accepted tagging standard, the comparatively large file size, and the comparatively large risk of data corruption. (find more details on the disadvantages of WAV via the aforementioned forum searches).

therefore i suggest you pick a different lossless format. if you're on a PC, go with FLAC instead. if you're on a MAC, go with FLAC or ALAC (you'll have to decide which works better for you).

    Says who?
    ---

I do all my tagging from within Traktor. But I also keep my main music collection separated from the Traktor collection, only making copies of tracks I really need I takes a little bit more time, but many of the fields can be done quickly by highlighting
and once you have the tracks correctly tagged, they will stay that way in Traktor when you update and so forth. Since one of my sorting criteria is by label, I would have to do it manually anyway, if using mp3s and other formats.

well, with FLAC, each frame has a CRC checksum. in addition, there's also the MD5 hash of the entire raw PCM audio. that gives you two ways to immediately identify errors (caused by bad RAM or during streaming or something like that). afaik, there aren't similar error detection mechanisms in WAVs. my understanding is a corrupted WAV will continue to play as long as the header is not corrupted but you may not notice the corruption.

in any case, i think the more important points were the other two. first, FLAC metadata usually works without a hitch, whatever application you use. with WAVs, chances are the tag written by application A cannot be read or modified by application B. second, FLAC means you need 30 to 50 percent less storage space. and that comes essentially at no cost because modern computers can decode FLAC insanely quickly.

Some one was telling me to convert it to aiff files. I also use Rekord box as some of the places I play do not allow computers. I dont want to manually have to type in the artist name, key and genre for every single song

yeah, i thought you were relying on pio. because otherwise, it would make no sense at all to stick to WAV. but since you have to deal with devices that don't support modern formats such as FLAC and ALAC, you're stuck with WAV. FLAC would eff up your workflow so to speak.

tbc, i think pio is just being lazy and extremely slow to upgrade their technology. if i were you, i'd put in a feature request with pio, asking them to support more audio formats. i mean, wtf? even cheap android smartphones now support ogg and flac, and those devices aren't even geared towards DJs or musicians.

I can use AIFF or WAV. So what should I do? There has to be some way to add tags automaticly. That would really suck if I had to imput the artist into every single track then on traktor add the key.

Well, you still have to do it at least once,

no matter what format you convert your songs to.

The information will not just magically appear.

Personally I only play with CDs or Traktor (time code) these days and when I add a new song/songs (almost exclusively in WAV format) I just tag them and that's it.

If you gonna use rekord box. just google it and find he best format.

(And yeah, many times the retailers tags are so strange it wouldn't be of much use to me anyway)

Wav is and will remain the industry standard as far as professional audio is concerned.

Flac is a compression method, nothing more, nothing less.

So whare are you using to tag them? Are you just manually typing them into traktor? My problem is I have about 500 songs that I need to put into traktor and burn to a cd. Burning to a cd is easy because I write on the disc so it doesnt matter what it says. Rekordbox and Traktor is what I am worried about. More traktor then rekordbox becuase I can always just use cds and save my que points to memory cards

Yes, as I said above I tag them within Traktor. It is actually a quite powerful editor.

The problem, or whatever you might call it, is that a Wav file looks like this:

'Capleton - Tour'. And all that info ends up in the same field, i.e. the name field. Most of the other fields, like genre, release, artists etc can be done in bulk by highlighting (for the artist field you can use the search function in order to avoid doing them one by one) and opening up the Editor. But if you like me like to have all fields clean, you still have to manually erase the 'Capleton -' part on each individual track in the name field. But since my Traktor collection been a work in progress for many years, I seldom worry about it , I just tag them when I get them. A few seconds and its done.

Put on some good music and good luck.

(Be aware though that you Traktor tags won't show up in other players)

    powerful?

mp3tag, kid3, puddletag, and foobar2000 are powerful. above, you speak about professionalism and industry standards. but you use traktor for tagging? doesn't compute.

Stop buying wave files. You can purchase Aif files from beatport and those contain metadatas.
