i believe the same thing. that's just how the traktor collection works. i would be very surprised if you are wrong here.

OP talked just about "samples." he's been MIA so we don't know if he actually meant samples that are part of already existing remix sets.

clearly, if you build remix sets from tracks in one go, it's a bit of a PITA to change the format of the samples. you'd basically would have to replicate the remix set in the new format from the original remix set before you can delete the WAV samples.

that's probably too much trouble unless for some special cases. (for example, i think conversion to a more space-saving format makes sense if you need to distribute the remix set. it really surprises me that NI isn't doing that for the remix set they give out for free. seems like a huge waste of network bandwidth.)

what is it with you and network bandwidth? are you on dialup internet access or something?

    no.

remember, you get the 35-40% file size reduction with FLAC for free. there is no performance disadvantage to it. in fact, some empirical tests have actually shown that CPU usage with FLAC is lower (!) than with WAV presumably since there's less data to read. here's a reference.

i take that 35-40%. makes it faster to transfer files from my desktop to my laptop wirelessly. (network bandwidth!) means i need less non-volatile storage for my laptop, desktop, NAS, backup drives, etc., as well.

    Thanks to all that replied.

The reasons for the conversion are primarily due to storage and batch tagging. I haven't yet made too many samples with Traktor for this reason, deciding I would be best clearing up this type of query before jumping in.

'malzfreund' I think has confirmed that converting to MP3 wouldn't cause a problem. Will I even notice the loss in quality...? I do tend to keep a lot of my music on an external HDD, keeping all the main tracks I'll play on my MacBook.
