I was really impressed with Waves MPX plugin which emulates the tone and saturation
of a vintage Ampex tape machine. Wanting to keep everything in GR4 and not have to use an external host for guitar playing I decided to go about recreating that sound in GR4. Here is the result:

What I did was had one tape echo only wet signal to get that sound of tape. The warble can be adjusted to lessen the chorus effect. Also both sets of tone controls can be adjusted to taste, they are very powerful. This setting is to match the MPX plugin.

After making the sound all tapey(new word!) I then sent it into another tape machine to get the delay. This was set to have the same hipass tone as the MPX.

I did this build in Mainstage 2 and the CPU usage of GR4 with both tape echos versus the MPX was significantly less, about 10% of my CPU(Dual core 3.16 GHZ), according to the bars on Mainstage 2.

The GR5 echo and tape is much more flexible and can be more extreme so that is what is appealing to me. Knowing that I can nail the sound of a Waves plugin that is being touted, and that does sound very very good, is just that much more satisfying.

I am that much closer to having GR4(GR5 soon) be the all in one solution to my plug in and guitar rig needs.

Now to decide on a compressor and to explore EQ(GR4s Para EQs are still so clunky).

I don't know if the tape algo in the new drummer modul is the same as the GR tape delay. But with its simplified GUI it should be made available in GR, too.
