I’m running Maschine in Ableton as a VST in Ableton. I have my drums on Group 1, Synths on Group 2, 3, and so on. The drums are all on the same MIDI channel and transposed so the MIDI clips in Ableton trigger the drums on Group 1. Group MIDI mode is set to drum kit. For some reason, the drum group does not sound unless the group is selected. None of the other groups do this. And the group only does this when the drum kit MIDI mode is set. Has anyone else experienced this? Am I doing something wrong?

I'm guessing here, but I'd say because you should have it in manual midi mode instead of drum kit. Even though you say they're on the same channel, you can switch to manual mode to change the root note if you need. it get tricky depending how you setup your "kit." It should work for the most part, but it still seems I have to sometime shift the midi octaves.

Manual Mode is not good because it causes all MIDI notes to be triggered at once for each hit because they are on the same channel. This is why Drumkit Mode exists. Is this a bug?

Manual mode is good, but your problem is you need learn up on how to properly use it. You didn't select all tracks in the group and the select the "batch midi settings" in order to have it shift the notes by one key. That's why they all hit on the same key. Not a bug, but serious UI problem.

I assume you made the common mistake of trying to set the "batch midi" setting before selecting all of the tracks in a group first. You may have done that for the midi channel, but you also need to right click over the group to select the batch setting.

Ok, I need to look into this more. Is the Drumkit mode just broke and useless then?

I don't think it's broken. If you stop and really think about what is a drum "kit" in Maschine? In Maschine it's type 1 midi that contains separate information for each track, so if you have it selected then you had better be feeding it a type 1 midi input. You are probably sending the notes from Ableton all on the same midi channel to Maschine, and that's not how the kits in Maschine work. You can change it by selected the "batch midi" settings, so that it acts more like type 0 midi where the notes are all on the same channel.

And I don't mean probably, you did state that you're sending it type 0 midi, and a drum kit in Maschine by default is type 1.

Edit: I also noticed a bug where it'll reset it back to a type 1 when you drag midi into it. If you set your first pattern to the same channel, any other import changes it back. This is something new and I haven't noticed it before, so I'll have to confirm it.

I'm going to call that a bug. I now think I know why so many people are having issues with it. It doesn't matter if you setup the group to be type 0 midi with all of the notes on the same channel, any other pattern you drag into Maschine will default it back to a type 1. Can I get somebody in support to confirm this?
