Weird Pricing for Komplete 8?

    Komplete 8 Ultimate is 1099

Komplete 8 Crossgrade upgrade for maschine owners is 399

Komplete Ultimate upgrade from any Komplete package is 559

    My questions are:
    1. Why is there not a crossgrade upgrade option for Komplete 8 Ultimate for maschine users like there is for Komplete 8

    2. If I got the crossgrade upgrade for Komplete 8 (399) and then upgraded to the ultimate (559), then I would spend 958 (141 less than list price.) Or did I miss something?

Yeah, I'm confused about the pricing myself. I'd like to get the update from Komplete 7 but will be missing out on key instruments (I forget which) and upgrade path to ultimate seems a little high (and I don't need a another bloody external hard drive!). I'm just going to stick with the update. Later on there might be a cheaper upgrade path to ultimate (that only includes stuff I don't already have).

This comment and the one above is showing a trend within the NI community that people are rethinking how they deal with new products in the future. We're thinking smart. If we do that and remain loyal to NI (NI rates behind Korg and Roland for me) than we remain happy and save money, not going out and buying the latest great offer on display.

I agree - this thing is clearly aimed at us Maschine users hence makes little sense to have no upgrade to ultimate

I own Komplete 7, Maschine, and a number of the newer softwares offered... The Ultimate upgrade price of $500 is way too high.

NI should have custom upgrade pricing based on the number of registered products the consumer has.

I've thought that for a while, considering most people have existing NI software and some is nfr it makes sense although it is a great price for the bundle compared to what you would pay individually...

I totally agree with you. I do not own Komplete and have been kicking the idea around for quite some time now. Part of the reason is there are certain other instruments I would still have to buy separately (i.e. Alicia's Keys, Scarbee basses, Session Strings, etc) and could not make myself do it. Now with K8 Ultimate it is exactly what I want, everything bundled together and on a hard drive which I would have had to purchase anyway. I would rather be offered a crossgrade for Ultimate honestly because if I am going to take the plunge I am buying it because it has everything that I want.

Is this even possible? On the NI page they consider an upgrade for users from K1 - K7. Was not sure if it mattered but would hate to do it and then end up getting stuck.

This is not a "hijack", but it is not about pricing. With K8 Ultimate on a hard drive, will the apps be in one folder, and the samples in another? They say it's a case of just copying the stuff onto the hard drive of your choice.

I upgraded a year ago from Komplete 6 to Komplete 7 and got VERY little to show for it.

I believe I'll wait for a few years and see what comes out in 2013 or so.

The harddisk is just an easy way to store that many GB's (install files), instead of DVD as medium.

Yes, I got that part. Thanx!

    .... but ....
    ---
What do you mean, very little. Could you elaborate?

On a different note, I just upgraded from six to seven a few months ago, too, just for the Vintage Organs, since they discontinued B4. weird, eh, but it was worth it! :D

Now, studio Drummer and the compressors alone are worth the upgrade. The other stuff is gravy.

I'd really like to hear your feelings on your 6-7 upgrade, though. :S

As you can see by the date on my forum membership I’ve been a Native Instruments fan for a while.
So please take this in the spirit that it was intended. In a nutshell I upgraded from K6 to K7, not because of what was offered, but what would be offered. I now see that logic was in error. Because what would be offered ended up in K8 and not K7.
I see a lot of overlap, a heck of a lot of overlap in some of these products. I own Maschine already, I have battery even before it was offered in Komplete. Do I really need Studio Drummer? I don’t know, but I’m not going to spend $200 to $500 to find out.
For $99 I would upgrade. For $200, I’ll wait until K9 comes out and see if its worth it then.
I am happy the followed my advice and came out with an version of Komplete (ultimate) that really is Complete.

I'm beginning to see what you mean.
In terms of studio Drummer, I was going to get BFD2 and use it to drive battery, but I'm glad I waited.
