EP's sounds - samples and FX - are great BUT ...
...but I find that all four instruments (especially the two MK) are oddly tuned : the upper notes are too low. My ear is not particularly sharp, but it becomes quite obvious if you play octaves or double-octaves, or wide thirds like B2-D3.
    (sorry for my poor english)

Perhaps it is related with distorsion (it is more obvious in low velocities). Also, I read what is mentioned about the "streched tuned insruments" - but it makes no real difference.

I cannot understand why nobody mentioned this before - for me it makes the instrument almost unusable, especially when mixed with other instruments...

Could someone at NI explain why it is so ? The global tuning in the option dialog is not a solution - it cannot modify the intervals. Is there another setting I have missed ?

    Hiya,

Wow, you must have a really good ear. I'm no expert on this. Actually, the extent of my knowledge on the tuning of a Rhodes comes from somewhere on NIs website or perhaps in the manual for the EP. Anyhow, from what I understand, Rhodes were not "stretch tuned" at the factory, which accounts for perceived flatness in the upper end. It also part of the authentic rhodes sound. However, NI did provide a "streched tuned" version of the Rhodes, so just select that patch, and you should hear the difference. But, IMO, you should leave it alone since it's part of the sound. Especially if you're playing jazz, blues or rock. Your ear is too precise, and some of the imperfections are part of the sound. This is true with the Hammond B3 as well.

I recently switched from an old beat up Mark I to the NI EP, and love it!

Hi, and thanks for your advice.
I already tried the stretch tuned instrument, and it makes no real difference. Now I suspect something wrong with my hardware (some loose timing in my computer or my soundcard), because the problem occurs not only with EP (although not with all sound banks ...).
I really don't know what happens, but I'm sure I have not a so fine ear - several friends had the same feeling...

    Hey!

I'm having the exact same problem. Don't tell me I spent all the money I did for some lousy authentic sounds?

I'm most likely rushing to judgement. Is there a way around this?
To get cleaner sounds that is.
