Yeah, I'm going to go back to 1.8 when using it as a plugin. I'll still use 2.0 in standalone as that seems to be working fine for me. I may even try routing Maschine standalone into Live via Soundflower and IAC bus see if that'll work (although when I tried to sync 1.8 with Reason in the same manner, I came across no end of problems).

I too would have liked extra external outputs. 16 can feel a bit limiting at times.

It ıs a lot of effort to put out a new version of software So, I do not want to discourage any coders here but, UI design has to be done with feedback with users.

My feeling is that 1.8 really gives you what you expect from a beat sequencer called machine,
2.0 ..... well not that much for me.
I have Pro Tools and Logic for all that stuff anyway.

Mixer view is nice but I'm on MK1 and I would prefer to be able to Show/Hide Browser, Arrange, Modulator, Params, scroll vertical in Kbd mode instead.... I use Logic's mixer when I use Maschine as plugin.

I feel that 1.8 was a really compact software.
With 2.0, the screen do not mirror what is on the hardware at all.
To me, Mascine 1.8 was a sophisticated beat sequencer but now it is more like a DAW.
If I think about how Reason started and became a DAW, it is comparable.

    If I break it down,

    - New Browser is not good for me I like the old one way better
    - Navigation is really crippled with 2.0, 1.8 was really nice
    - Controller and Software views are not in sync half the time, 1.8 was much better
    - Grid button functionality was better and easier for me
    - Pattern button functionality was better in 1.8
    - I prefer modules button instead of channel/plugin buttons since you have do a lot of paging for src, output, grv etc...
    - Splitting, duplicating patterns is easier with 1.8
    - In 2.0 all the buttons are lit where in 1.8 pads w/o a sound were off
    - Knobs, Buttons, Screens were all used better in 1.8 and It is so obvious that 2.0 was made for another controller
    ++++++++++++++++++
    - Drum Synth is nice I wish we could use it with 1.8
    - I never needed Multicore with my MAC but I guess it is nice for some people
    - I don't think I need to see Mixer view when I'm beat sequencing but I guess it is a nice addition for most people
    - Unlimited groups could be nice for bigger projects but I will not be using it much

In short, Mashine MK1 controller and 2.0 is NOT in Sync I think....

In 1.5 year NI came out with many new hardware and had to adopt Maschine software to all of them.
I don't think that it was successful for UI integration.
I guess this strategy made them more money.

I will use 1.8 for now and I hope I won't have to pay for another upgrade until 2.x software is in sync with machine controller.

Great breakdown of the current issues 5teez0!
you have pointed out some issues i have not yet had the pleasure of encountering yet!

Well...i have given up trying to get this upgrade to work....i am going to revert to the previous version.
I have NEVER nor do i expect ever to spend 5 days solid trying to get an upgrade to work. Minor bugs i can live with but this is probably the worst piece of software i have to date...before my upgrade...it was the best.
I had no issues shelling out 99euros for what was promised....but not worth the creative downtime and frustration incurred as a result. I am pissed

NI... you need to shoot your beta testers... bad joke i know... obviously you guys didn't bother with this step in the development...shame on you,
    i want a refund

Let's hope NI now listen to their user base. It's one thing taking a long time between releases but when you have users reverting back to an older release, even after paying that's serious.

I am still completely stumped as to why such basic sequencer features are missing after all this time, really stumped.

    That's a great, detailed breakdown.

For those of you whole who like the TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read) version:

    Pros:

    - New Features!

    Cons:

    - Crappy workflow.

That pretty much sums it up in as few words as possible.
I haven't bought the upgrade, but I've watched every video I could find on the subject (there have been quite a few since the beginning of November).

...to some degree i can understand people's problems with software bugs BUT we all have to realise: this is a software .0 release...noone who is seriously (aka not as a hobby) into producing upgrades to a .0 release (without expecting bugs)...
and i also (and even more) can't understand people that just upgraded to os mavericks which is also out for just some days/weeks...i mean...you have a .0 os and a .0 software and expect a producing bugfree system?...c'mon...

Also back on 1.8. My Maschine Studio takes a nap until the software gets useable and makes fun to work with in Live.

One shot samples never had Attack, Hold, Decay amplitude controls in 1.x. You're thinking of AHD.

Most of the items on that list is on point but there are a few that are just plain incorrect like the one Lethal just pointed out.

I'm not sure what started it, but alot of music software is going the route of clean interfaces and hiding things in menus. Its completely silly. Cakewalk ruined their Sonar line with the X series, all so that a few simpletons could have a baby interface to play with (even though you could have customized the old interface to look like that). Its really a shame this trend is spreading. A truly gifted GUI designer does not follow trends and styles, but looks at the control set and figures out the absolutely most efficient way to arrange elements on the screen for use. Cosmetically, I find programs look better when they are organized by function than when they try to be an art piece or stylized too much.

I hope now that NI has fixed the engine, they redo the GUI to make it more functional. I'd hate to see them stubbornly go down this crazy path of making tasks harder to complete just like Cakewalk did with Sonar X. It'd be better for everyone if they gather feedback and get to putting things right with the software.

Other than the Browser tag area I like the new GUI better. Prefer the vertical view with white background for the browser types.

Yeh, I don't quite agree with a lot of the comments about the GUI. I definitely like using the new one better. Much nicer.

I also prefer the new GUI, though I'd like to be able to toggle the GUI elements with my MK2 hardware.

Yeah, by 1.8 there was a lot of functionality in regards to the GUI with the navigate button. All of that seems to have disappeared in 2.0.

True but it's 2.0 not 1.0 it's not the very first version. Why would you remove features? If they weren't there in the first place then fair enough but to remove things without providing a better way to achieve the same thing isn't something 2.0 software (of any kind) should do.

Not bug free may be... But workable.
Also, I guess the point is that 1.8 was really good and It was a near perfect experience with the hardware.
So, It may be harder to get used to working with 2.0

This is exactly what was my point in another post. DONT FIX WHAT'S NOT BROKEN. Everytime this happens the whole "pull/force" driving that element slows down or dumbs down.

I was set on gettin 2.0 but alot of the things mentioned here talk about workflow that actually has changed. If im going to a new upgrade i would expect things to include everything that was good, and then have add-ons.

Not the Motif ES to Motif XS all over again............

Well, if you do not believe me, have a look at the screenshot in Post #14:

    http://www.native-instruments.com/f...-back-to-1-8&p=1229681&viewfull=1#post1229681

Although the Playback Mode is in fact set to One Shot, you still have Attack, Hold and Decay. So no need to hold a pad, but still have the AHD Option… that is kind of smart back in 1.8…

Btw, thanks to everybody backing me up on up on my little article. I thought it would upset a lot of peopl but I am glad that it resonates with you and that it turned into a constructive discussion. Liked Salam Beats resumé, too. Let's hope N.I. takes the vital and critical points into consideration. If not, well… somebody else gets my money next time. Simple as that!

That's the modulation envelope, it even says so in the picture. It's still there is 2.0 too, you just have to click (or page across on the controller) on the modulation tab.
