And this is exactly why companies such as Adobe and Autodesk operate as they do. Hardly an evolutionary trait..........................

Maybe it's because you have never shown any understanding of how a perpetual licence model is possibly good for anyone, in fact rather you have insistently argued against it.

Well whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen despite any thoughts we kick around in any forums. Not really worth getting at odds with anyone.

I truly am in favor of users have multiple choices for how they get the software they like. Option are good and I understand the many reasons why someone has a preference. I was firmly rooted in the "subs are horrible" for awhile when they first emerged with Adobe and Avid.

I just happen to see things differently now in the benefits of subscription when well-designed and implemented. And the more I have thought about it, the more advantages I see as possible for a large portion of users.

So, it will be interesting as things move forward. I myself am an optimist and look forward to the changes.

Nothing just "happens", behind every event there are movers and shakers in this world. Assuming subs are on the table, and we are dealing with intelligent management ... I expect the voices of the existing user base is of interest. I think an open rational debate about the potential of subs is in everyones interest, leaving everybody wiser. I think it is important to understand the perspective of everyone, including the minority.

Avid's subscription/ownership models have been ever evolving. One better practice that has emerged with ownership is that you can add an annual update fee to a permanent license, and if you choose to let it expire, you'll hang onto whatever the latest "product build" was on the expiration date. This helps mitigate the problem of "versioning" in the development cycle of sub vs ownership.

Autodesk used to do something like this, but obviously felt not enough people were updating (quite possibly because their updates weren't as compelling as they might be, and may also have had a certain added 'bugginess') so they changed to subscription only.

I've been sniffing on the Roland Cloud and the MV-1 for a while. They have a free membership option and possibility to buy 4 life instruments that can be used with it. I think minimum system requirements have been reduced from W10 to W7 at some point, which makes it more attractive from my perspective. Overall it looks like a very smooth integrated mobile system, although I've heard some **** about problems with a random need for an internet connection. Don't know if it's true.

If NI where to move in this direction It would be attractive. I think they got all the elements as Roland, however there is a lot to be desired in terms of interoperability within their own ecosystem.
