Hi all, first post for me here.

I'm very interested in getting Reaktor 5, and waited for the Universal Binary version to be released, to run it on my MacBook Pro. Reading the forums about 5.1.2, however, I get the impression that it's not the most stable release, and the general idea seems to be to avoid 5.1.2 if you can. (Maybe I just picked up some negative posts?)

So, what are those problems? Since the demo is still the old PPC version, and it's killing my CPU bandwidth atm, I cannot test myself. Does it run stable on an Intel Mac? Any Intel Mac users out there who'd like to comment?

    Thanks,
    Robert

R5.1.2 IS the Universal Binary release.

    it is very stable.

the problem is that some users are finding it difficult to register this version.

other users (including most Mactel owners) have not had these problems.

but yes, it would be good to get comments from Mactel users out there.

i experienced a few strange freezing-problems of reaktor UB used within ableton's live, so NI asked for an error-report my macintel2.16 created whilest crashing. the problem happens randomly and would have been a desaster when playin' live, but mostly Reaktor runs perfectly, smoothly and pretty stable, currently i'm impressed how much fx- and instrument-ensembles can be used at the very same time...

Thanks for the fast replies, guys.

I just checked out the "can't register UB" thread, and gee, that doesn't look good. Not looking forward to spending 500 euro and not being able to use the software, ouch...

Einmeier, I will be using Reaktor together with Live 6, just like you. The freezing problems, how often do they occur? Enough to get paranoid, like a couple of times a week?

    it seems to runs fine.
besides some little minor graphic glitches. i have no problems so far.
the registration thing seemed to be a pain in the ass for quite a lot of people, but i think the main problems are sorted out so far. there have been quite a lot of service center updates

there is a bug with massive's sequencer data not being updated when morphing snaps (massive is not the only one).

I don't think that the service centre problems have been sorted out.

It's such a shame that a badly written copy-protection scheme can mar what is otherwise amazing software.

I own a Macbook, I bought Reaktor last week and spent many hours with it already.
    Absolutely no problem so far.

Installation went pretty smooth, after a few minutes everything was perfectly installed and ran immediately. The freezin' bug just happens randomly, usually i can spend hours playin' with all kind of ensembles and just sometimes and randomly the freezin' bug comes up. so, this is nothing really i got mad about.

Baught it Last week Had a bit of trouble Authorizing But theres a thread that covers it. Runs fine on both my Quad and my Laptop. Cpu is loads lower on mac intel than the Ppc. Still wading through all the Ensembles.

    Hi Sowari,

I have to disagree. My standalone version of 5.1.2 won't stay open for more than 5 seconds. I did just open it as a VST in Cubase and it stays open, but I haven't had a chance to test any more than that.

    hi timaging

did the R5.1.1 version work ok with you in standalone?

what exactly happens in standalone, meaning do you get some sort of error report? what is your system and have you reported this to tech support?

Edit: i have just seen your post in in the bug list. you need to send your crash log to tech support.

    Hi Sowari,

Dave here again... I went directly from 5 to 5.1.2. I didn't see any notification that I had to do that first... or if there was, I missed it.

I did send that crash log to tech support and haven't heard back yet-hopefully soon so that I can get started on my projects.

    Thanks,
    Dave

ok, there is a backlog (because of holidays) with tech support, but i am told they are trying their best to answer.

so i see you are installing it on a Mac pro desktop. Reaktor 5 AND Reaktor 5.1.1 do not work on Intel Macs. you have to use R5.1.2
are you using the internal soundcard?

Interesting that you say 5 did work on Intel Mac. Mine seemed to fire up fine...I do however need to stress that I've only opened the application and have never actually used Reaktor. I tried a few things just to see if I could get sounds and it's not immediately apparent to me on how to use this program.... BUT version 5 did not crash.

I'm going to try and find a starter tutorial on this to make sure about the sound issue that you mention. Interestingly enough, if I open Reaktor as a VST plugin through Cubase, it stays open. I just gotta run it when I get a chance to see if I get any sound.

I'm not using a sound card. I have a Lexicon Omega that I'm running through that I got with Cubase (just upgraded to version 4), and have an M-Audio O2 keyboard.

    Thanks!
    Dave
