Did anybody try to emulate that sound?Any idea?
Maybe it could be an interesting topic to talk about and in the next release we will find a sitar sound in the sinth bank..;)

I have it in my Variax (http://line6.com/variax/index.html?...vigation&utm_campaign=Variax300+DropDown). Not great, but usable for surprising and the occasional oriental outburst! Maybe Roland´s GK system (for instance http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=592&ParentId=53) is better, but I haven´t tried it.

As for sitar sounds through signal processing, I don´t know of any other boxes or gadgets than Danelectro´s now discontinued Sitar Swami pedal (http://filters.muziq.be/model/danelectro/60s/sitarswami). I saw it (with a huge discount) in a store once, and decided to try it. I couldn´t with my best abilities tweak it right or even fool my ears to believe that it was supposed to sound anything like a sitar. Disappointed, most of my own playing and tweaking, I handed it back to the salesperson. "Did you get a good sound?", he asked. "No...", I reluctantly replied. "Well, neither could any of us! We just wanted a second opinion", he smiled. I guess there was a reason for it being discontinued! Long story, told in public for the first time tonight... I went for the Danelecto Psycho Flange (!) instead, but I haven´t used it much.

I hope you find your (sound) road to India somehow! There might be some similar sounds from your axe if you´re darn good at tweaking the ring modulator, but I can´t think of a real way of getting that sound from Guitar Rig. Well, I´m still an apprentice, so maybe somebody else has got it right?

    I like it myself! :-D

The only known (as far as I can tell...) recorded performance of me and my Variax sitar, is on the hopefully Elvis and The Jordanairs-sounding demo song "Love For You And I", written by my friend Gard for the band Guardia Sivil.

Actually it started out as a joke. The others in the studio had never seen (and possibly not heard) a Variax before. So I turned on the most far out sound it can produce, the sitar, and played. Our tech recorded it, and I thougt he would delete it afterwards. But the others liked it, and it stayed in the mix until the very end.

Listen here (two "solos", deliberately somewhat sloppy played...): http://www.uhort.no/artist/5929/sang/23576

A stellar performance... While listening, I had a flash of a troll playing a sitar on a boat floating in the Oslo harbour. Scary stuff! :D

I would love a sitar sound in GR.
It just can't be done now with the available modules.

Sorry, just saw this thread today. A bit late, but I've successfully created a sitar in GR3. I will later on produce a patch which has a bunch of sustain shorteners, with Banjo, Upright Bass and a pseudo or "satire" Sitar on it. It involves just hitting one note and then the drone with filtering starts. It can't really be done on all strings on all tones.

Will publish it when it's ready. Soon.

KORGs pocket PANDORA PX5 units has a Sitar patch or similar that is useful. When the tuner section is involved, it tracks a special note - say D - and then all filtering and sitar like drones occurs. Then you can change the pitch center when editing the patch. It just works in one key at a time though.

It is hard on the GR3 and takes toll on your CPU. Don't use HIGH Q. But it is possible to get a decent fake one. Like the KORG Pandora units.
