I agree, Live is a very handy tool for doing multitrack recordings in the wild - e. g. a band room or something like that. It’s quick and easy to set up and just works for this purpose.
Does this also apply to using Maschine without utilizing its sequencer?;)
    :)
    BTW.
What do guys think of something like a Machine/expansions Player?
Similar to Reaktor or Guitar Rig Player.
A small, free plug in, which allows to load one kit/group, no sequencer, a stripped-down mixer, but the option to either use stereo out or 16 outs for the 16 sounds of the group (and keeping it regardless of the saved group settings).

    Thanks!

Haven't done any dancehall yet, but who knows. :)
I checked out the sample packs, the dancehall one is really expensive and not really the style i'lll work on, the reggae one i like, i believe it is compiled by dubmatix, who i think is one of the best contemporary reggae/dub producers. i actually have a sample pack by him. but generally speaking i don't need that many sample packs. the packs i have at the moment i use mostly for drums and there is more than enough to keep me occupied for a lng time :)

...not sure, if this a serious recommendation - I think it is. Makes it kind of funny... :D

@dj_67 - personally, I don't care, if there is something like an expansions player, but I'm surprised that it hasn't happened, yet. I actually expected something like that along with v2, but maybe NI could have estimated that something like this might rather increase the warez problem as it might increase sales. And such a free plug-in - I don't know. If there's no sequencer, then it's not a demo version of Maschine (which would be nice) and just another container for a bunch of samples. Right now I don't see a benefit for potential customers or NI. A better marketing tool for NI (and freebies for users) could be, if NI would establish something like splice for Maschine - a collaboration platform and sample outlet that offers xy GB/MB of free samples.

Btw. I'm curious how a business model like the Eastwest Composer Cloud might have an impact on NI. If I think of that and something like splice or what Propellerhead is doing or the pressure of the Akai products and the appeal of Ableton Live & Push compared to Maschine, I can see why it's taking so long (not that I'm not pissed about that). NI is a pretty big ship and as such perhaps not easy to maneuvre, as they probably will build their stuff around the next version of Maschine. For me, when 2.5 will be there, then it's there and I'll be glad - for now, I'm pissed as Maschine database is currently pretty f*cked over here... :)

I don’t care either and you’re probably right - especially about the warez aspect.

I was just a quick idea, which arose last night in a get together with some old friends of mine, who are into producing radio jingles and commercials. They’re using Maschine only as a preset player for drums without the controller.
Time is an important factor in this business - much more than having a „signature sound“. It was generally agreed, that the Maschine/expansion kits are well pre-eqed and efficient to use.

Good luck with your database! I know this could be very tedious - especially if your like me not perfectly organized - and even a backup doesn’t help most of the times.:)

...yeah, where's the fun in it, if you aren't having a bit of an OCD in that area! :D:D:D (...oder "deutsche" Gründlichkeit, was wohl dasselbe ist...:))

Thanks - I deinstalled all my expansions a few weeks ago and have reinstalled a couple of them (as their sounds are indeed very well mixed), but there are a lot of items missing. I have added their locations manually and rebuilt the database twice, but nothing. Guess, I have to call support...

As I told, I recently updated to Suite. And I have to learn a lot to make madness happen.
Meanwhile I am using Maschine as an Instrument. It has its limitations, indeed. Thats the reason why I am looking to work with Ableton a lot more than I used to. One of the most beloved feature was how quickly you can control NI's own Instruments like the whole Komplete Library.

Was. Meanwhile Ableton learned a lot and did a lot for integration of "third party plugins", so I swapped Komplete for Suite since I am using more Reaktor 6 and Blocks, sooooo.....

And one of the reasons I am not a willing ableton user is: i dont like the GUI. yes, it is clean and bla bla bla, but I can't somehow get used to it. But I have to...
Maybe getting me a APC or Push would help a lot, but one step at the time.

I hear you on that one bro...it varies from person to person, but for me it's the same. Somehow, I thought I would never quite gelled with it despite ongoing attempts. I am just now finally getting really comfortable with the Arrangement view, and have been more and more comfortable with the Sessions view since a while, but it took time, and is not my fave. Still super clear compared to many DAWs, once you get comfy with it's quirks.

The main incentive for me to get more comfortable with it is that most producers these days are using it, as are musicians. So to collaborate, it's not essential but definitely makes things easier.

Debatable that Ableton is the most used by producers. I keep seeing pro tools over and over again in recording studios. I use Pro Tools and Sonar not that I endorse either, I'll probably look at Ableton when there is a sale

Depends for what for sure...regular studios, yes, Pro Tools. Electronic music producers: Ableton Live.

I would say home studios for Ableton. Which is a far bigger market than pro studios anyway.

I suspect you are kidding yourself here, Ableton is used a lot for performance but most EM studios over here in the UK are Logic/Cubase, everything else falls secondary to those, From what i understand in the states Reason still has a huge impact on mid to hi level studios, however, on both sides of the pond Ableton is kind of a universal tool, if you use Logic/Cubase/Reason you are likely to have some version of Ableton in your toolkit anyway.

no matter what traditional daw rules the roost at your typical electronic music studio, the hundreds of clients they have all use ableton when playing out if they use a computer.

I would argue that too, a lot, and i mean a lot of people use Mainstage, but yeah for groove based performance, oh and those tacky 'god pose - never even seen a turntable' DJs that just press play and pretend to twist dials too, Ableton owns that scene (Although there are actually better options now)
