Replacing my two 15" monitors with one 24" widescreen monitor sounded great in theory, but it wasn't that great in practice. I didn't want to spend any more money, but when I saw the "baby brother" of my 24" monitor at the store today, I simply couldn't resist buying it. Buying new gear and finding out how it all works is fun, but now it's time to get back to what it's really about. Making music!

    Mr. Maschine's Studio Set-Up

Whatz up Maschine community! Just wanted to share my pre-production studio set. We use the following to produce GOLDEN ERA and UNDERGROUND hip hop (not rap!):

COMPUTER - 3.0 ghz iMac with 4 gig memeory (modified)
    MASCHINE drum machine and controller
    AKAI MPD 32
    ARTURIA ANALOG EXPERIENCE
E-MU XL-7 but has MP-7 sounds, beat garden and retro keyboards cards
LIMITED edition Ferrari yellow M-AUDIO AXIOM 25
LIMITED edition Ferrari yellow KRK r-8 monitors (Blue Sky 2.1 not shown)
    Frontier Alpha TRack
    Focusrite Sapphire sound card
    Apple apogge soundcard

Remember it's not the equipment it's the creativity. I still love to use my roland r-8 human rhythm composer and a Casio. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it "MOTU BPM!" Fresh for 2009 you suckkkkaaas!

Mr. Maschinez Studio Set-Up left side of studio

This is the left side of our studio pre-production room! This is used by my partner Obleo who is right brained thinking in his workflow. This side of the studio consist of the folllowing:

YAMAHA RS7000 sequencer/drum machine (most slept on HANDS-ON or PLAYING LIVE sequencer of ALL-TIME!)
    KORG Elecktribe MX blue (groovebox)
    KORG Elecktribe SX red (sampler)
    KORG Kaoss Pad 3
    KORG kaoss pad 2
AKAI XR20 (but no MPC! Is that possible for hip hop? DUH! Yes it is!
    NUMARK turntable
    KRK monitors with crossovers
    BEHRINGER monitors mid range crossover
    MACKIE SUB-WOVER - sub wover
(Only Obleo can explain why so any crossover vs. just a set of good monitors but, it works for him and his EARS!)

The midi files of beatz made on the RS7000 are transferred to the iMac (we have an old scsii external hardrive connected to the RS7000) . We have a DRUM MAP that has been consistent for years so that everything matches up. (works for us!)
Remember it's only equipment! Now put that in your pipe MOTU BPM and smoke it! Fresh for 2009 you suckas!
