What happened to the Beatmasher?

    First off, I want to say that I am a beginner and so I do apologize if this problem simply requires a common knowledge fix. However, I have been up all night trying to figure this out so consider this my white flag...

    I just got a new notebook, Asus 2.53 GHZ DC, 4GB ram, vista home premium. It runs Traktor effortlessly, everything is just wonderful.. HOWEVER..

    The Beatmasher.

    When i use the beatmasher on my roommates computer, or my old notebook, and set it to "0", it grabs 4 beats and loops back. It's not the most precise thing in the world but it works. However, on my new notebook, it is all over the place. Not only does it NOT grab 4 beats (more like 2), it seems to change after the first four times through the loop.

    Basically, I'm expecting this:
    [ ] = capture
    ( ) = repeat

    1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 [1 2 3 4](1 2 3 4)(1 2 3 4)(1 2 3 4)

    And what I am getting is something like this:

    1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 [1 2 3 4](1 2 1?3)(1?2 2 3)

    I'm using the same version of traktor for all 3 computers, the only real variable is that my new notebook is vista.. Is it Vista? Is Vista wrecking even my beatmasher?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Vista sucks but that's neither here nor there (more there really). If that's the only difference then I would blame Vista but what about the tracks? Are they properly beatgridded/etc on the offending computer?

    Beatmasher 2 is complete trash. it's weird that they took what worked so well in T3 and messed it up so bad. I've found myself going back to "delay" cause as least that works like it did in t3 (the earlier versions before they messed that up too).

    That's the thing, everything else works just fine...great even. I've never used the older versions, just 1.1. I had no complaints about beatmasher 2 until this happened. The more I think about it the more i realize it's probably isolated to my computer. I'll just have to manually use the loop in loop out for that function I guess. It does give you more control it's just hit or miss some times on hitting the "spot" and getting a perfect loop... although I'm sure it gets easier with practice.

    I do welcome any ideas, though. Thanks for the replies.

    It does exactly what i says on the tin.... mashes the beat.... i luv it but i suppose its how you use it.... i find myself just bringing it in and out with in 2 or 3 beats just to change up the end of a beat..!

    I have found that it's still a great tool to use but the fact of the matter is that the effect is drastically different depending on the computer I use.

    If I set it to 0 on other computers it basically starts a 4 beat loop which I can shorten by adjusting it when I want to. That's not the case on my computer.

    Sounds like the track bpm is wrong so you aren't getting perfect 4 bar loop. Or when you bring the beatmasher up the default settings for the other knobs or buttons are different so it acts differently.

    what happens to the behaviour when you turn 'quantize' on? (near the master volume)

    Quant doesn't fix it. What is quant supposed to do? I read the "info" popup but I'm not sure what that means. Please don't laugh but I just noticed the "snap" button. My god, i've been looping on the fly without it for months! This just got a lot easier.

    Are you using it in chained mode or advanced mode? In chained, it's a simple beatmasher, and grabs 2 bars in the off position (correct me on this..) and 1/32 beat on the full on posish. Perhaps you have the other parameters turned up in the advanced mode?

    Otherwise (although I don't take you for an idiot) you may have beatslicer (as someone suggested) although, it seems odd even for beatslicer?

    It's definitely not set to beatslicer, and the behavior occurs in chained mode. It could be that it somehow got set differently in advanced and perhaps those settings carried over to chained mode. I'll have to play with it. It works well for creating glitches and stutters when I have it set between 50% and 90%, just not for loops. The funny thing is that, say I have it set to about 70% and i turn it on, it will do its thing but then a few beats into it it will completely change (this will then stay constant until I turn it off).

    ooh how about the master? It syncs with the master clock (either in ext mode or assigned to the deck)
    I know that sounds silly, but its happened to me before!

    in vista i had similar problems about beatmasher and phaser pulse effects, phaser pulse is diffrerent issue, but when i downgrade to XP everything just went fine for me. I also use ASUS 2.53 with 4 gb Ram, now on xp just 3 Gb is enough. And about Asus i understand that the computer must configure to music thingy. For example when i play i am closing wireless, and i am using xp classic visual GUI this kind of things and much more i did. Now it is a solid-bullet type notebook for me. İ am very pleased now. Sorry for my english, cause its no good at all, but i think you would understand my point.

    Nice. Yeah, Asus is solid and I can't believe I wasted 5 years with a big, heavy, noisy, weak batteried Sony Vaio. As far as the problem.. I am starting to think Vista is the issue. I know there is a way to have XP and Vista on the same computer, so maybe I just need to install XP and switch to it when I run traktor. I'll have to consult Google.

    I found something interesting today. A friend of mine wanted to learn how to use Traktor so I hooked up my laptop to my TV via HDMI so he could see what I was doing on a larger screen. All of a sudden, the beatmasher works perfectly. It's great for practicing since my TV is hooked up to a stereo and the traktor audio automatically gets routed to it. However, it would be real nice to have beatmasher work when I can't connect it to the TV. This has got to provide some clue as to what the problem is, although I do not know what that might be. Any thoughts?
