What if reaktor had a deticated DSP card like
the UAD from mackie? that would be interesting, no? :)

    just a thought :)

That would be terribly, terribly annoying, unless I could cram it in a 970 laptop somehow.

Their name is NATIVE instruments remember. ;-)

    leaning against against :)

it would jack the price up, making it less accessible. If it was OPTIONAL it might be useful but then NI would have to spend time on hardware, meaning less software developement and possible delays on releases (read endless past threads on this). There'd also be problems with laptops, as mentioned.

    yeah, what john said.

I absolutely love this idea - it would be a dream come true for me especially if it meant you would not just be limited to a single card but could multiply up the power - and even have a special sync to enable using second / third computers for even further expansion.

How about multiprocessor machines. PC/Mac? Win XP pro and OS X supports it. Wouldn't that be a more "Native" solution?

I can understand your point CList. I dont have a laptop. It would be nice to see it as an option for the future and not as a copy protection.

I can hardly imagin how fast cpu's will be in the next five years, but
I will bet that when that time comes, We would still benefit from some sort of dsp card. It will never end. We as consumers will always want/need more out of what we already have. I love my UAD 1 :) oh and reaktor too :)

I might have dreamt it, but wasn't it exactly this that started Native Instruments? Wasn't their first product software that ran on a dedicated DSP card they invented??

Isn't funny how things go in cycles....

Just checked it out, and yes, NI released a card called the "Generator Board" to run Generator on in the early days. Look under the System->Audio Port menu in Reaktor if you don't believe me!

Does anyone here have one of these?

Just because their name is "Native Instruments" would be a stupid reason not to release a DSP card. I do agree that it should be optional (I should have made that clear in the other post), but there's no denying that Reaktor is needlessly limited by your CPU. If the card were implemented we may finally be able to compose an entire track with Reaktor as VST, without the need for system link.

I usually compose entire tracks in Reaktor, using slightly cut down instruments (or my own custom ones) plugged into 16 mono outputs (grouped to stereo) into Cubase. Then I export every 4 bars as audio and edit them in an external audio editor. This approach works for anything, I'd never need a DSP card.

    just my opinion
