What type of reverb is used for near/far setting?

    Hello,

    I recently got the chance to play around with Akoustik Piano, and I really liked the near/medium/far option in the reverb section. I was wondering what type of reverb setting is used to manipulate the nearness of the piano. For example, does it have to do with early reflections? Is it using reverb as an insert or a send? Does anyone know? Thanks a lot for your help
